2025 Year 7 Orientation Day
On Tuesday 10th December, we welcomed our 2025 Year 7 students into our community as part of the Year 7 Statewide Orientation Day. Students rotated and eagerly participated in a range of staff and student lead activities, ranging from Drama, PE, Science and 'Get to Know You' activities, which were led by our magnificent Peer Support Leaders. Our fabulous day concluded with our amazing music students, showcasing their skills and incredible talents! It was wonderful to see students leaving with smiling faces and their 'welcome packs'! A special thank you to the wellbeing team and Officeworks Mentone for their generous donations.
A huge thank you to all the staff and students involved in making this a fabulous day for new students. We look forward to officially welcoming our 2025 Year 7s to Cheltenham during our first week back next year!
Many thanks

Year 7 Orientation Day - Nitrogen Science Experiment
You might know that water boils at 100 degrees Celsius and at normal room temperatures water is a liquid. But did you know that most of the air we breathe is made up of nitrogen gas? Nitrogen can be turned into a liquid but only at -197 degrees Celsius. The new Chelt.Sec Year 7's for 2025 were treated to a liquid nitrogen science show put on by Mr Wang and Mr Rigby as part of their Orientation day.
Liquid nitrogen is extremely cold and we need special protective gear to wear when it is used. As soon as the container is opened, the nitrogen gas starts to boil. If it's poured into hot water this looks really amazing. What happens to a balloon when it is put in liquid nitrogen? What happens to a sausage? A flower? What happens if you put some into a canister with a lid? The answers to these questions and more were on display for our new students. Many thanks to Mr Wang and Mr Rigby for putting on such a fun display and answering some very good questions from the students.
