Music News

Late Term 4 has seen much activity in the Music Department as we transition students toward the next chapters of their musical journeys. Class and rehearsal time over the last few weeks has featured the inclusion of orientation sessions that give students an understanding and experience of what their music classes and ensembles will be like in 2025. The Department has also been busy with performance opportunities and concerts.

On the 20th November our woodwind students entertained a large audience of appreciative parents and friends in the Band Room.

Our Year 7 Band took part in a massive Junior Music Day at Mount Rowan Secondary College, with over 100 student musicians combining and collaborating to produce a brilliant sound. Our students showed great concentration and focus in combination with students from Woodman’s Hill SC, Phoenix P-12 CC, Mount Rowan SC and Belmont High.

Whizbang has been in the studio recording their 11th studio album with 10 brand new tracks and look forward to releasing this in 2025. The Band is also performing on Saturday 14th December as part of the City of Ballarat’s Christmas Festival at 11am in the Queen Victoria Band Stand.

Year 7 Prac Room musicians performed a public concert in the Band Room on November 28th with a fantastic performance of material undertaken in practical classes during Term 4 in the Vet Music and Junior Band Showcase.

Year 8 Band undertook a tour of local primary schools, completed a recording session of current repertoire and played their final concert to a full house on Wednesday 4th December.

On 5th December a group of instrumental students travelled to the Food + Soul distribution centre in Wendouree. The Food Bank provides important community support to those in need and the music of our students created a nice atmosphere while patrons shopped.

On Wednesday 11th December our Christmas Concert was held in the quadrangle bringing a touch of festive cheer to the school grounds.

The final performances for the Department are at our awards night on 18th December where Concert Band and Senior Stage Band will take to the stage.
