Science

Welcome back to school to both students and their families.
This term in science, students are becoming biologists and taking a dive into the study of living and non-living things.
Level 5/6 students kicked off the year by reviewing the life cycle of a flowering plant. They then took the time to record their observations of seed pods collected from the school veggie patch, and discussed which part of the plant life cycle these pods are currently in.
Level 3/4 students explored their prior knowledge of how animals help plants, and how plants help animals. It was too hot outside to conduct our garden observations so I brought some of the garden inside for students to explore. Students had the opportunity observe a small container of soil and look for any living creatures hidden inside. Students found small ants, millipedes, dead beetles (they were dead when I collected them!), a few worms, and many other little critters from our school garden.
Level 1 and 2 students were introduced to the science room and all its fantastic and interesting features. They reviewed safety in science and spent some time exploring the question 'What is science?'. Students then drew themselves as scientists to add to the science room walls.
I hope everyone has had a great start to the year. Experiencing so many changes can be challenging so try think like a proton and stay positive!
