Dear Parents/Carers,

Below is my message to our graduates that I shared with them and their loved ones on Monday 9th December.

'Today, we gather to celebrate a remarkable milestone in your lives as you close the chapter on primary school and prepare to embark on new adventures in secondary school. What a journey it has been! Let’s take a moment to reflect on the vibrant, boisterous, and unforgettable group that you are.

As your principal, I have had the privilege of watching you grow from curious little learners into confident, capable young individuals. Each of you has brought something special to our school community—your laughter, energy, your creativity, and your unique perspectives.

Throughout your time here, you have faced challenges and celebrated successes. You’ve learned not just from textbooks, but from each other. You’ve developed friendships that I hope will last a lifetime, and you’ve created memories that will forever hold a special place in your hearts. Remember the school plays, the sports days, the science fairs, and the countless moments of laughter and learning. These experiences have shaped you into who you are today. As you prepare to transition to secondary school, I want to share a few thoughts.

First, embrace change. Change can be daunting, but it is also an opportunity for growth. Each new experience will help you discover more about yourselves and the world around you. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try new things.

Second, continue to be curious. The world is full of knowledge waiting to be explored. Ask questions, seek answers, and never stop learning. Education is a lifelong journey, and the skills you’ve developed here will serve you well as you continue on that path.

Lastly, remember the importance of kindness and respect. As you move forward, you will meet new people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives. Treat everyone with compassion and understanding, just as you have been treated here. Your ability to connect with others will be one of your greatest strengths.

WELCOME TO OUR FINAL NEW STAFF MEMBER THAT WILL JOIN US IN 2025

MRS EMMA MORRISON

Hello! My name is Emma Morrison and I’m looking forward to joining the MPS community in 2025. Next year, I will be entering my ninth year of teaching, bringing with me a wealth of experience. I’ve also had the opportunity to lead teaching teams in junior school. Teaching writing is something I am particularly passionate about. I live with my three daughters, three cats, and one dog—so you can definitely say it’s a full house! A few activities I enjoy include spending time with family and friends, attending musicals and going on walks, especially along the beach. I may even surprise some students by knowing a bit about Pokémon. :)

I’m really excited about teaching at Moorabbin Primary School next year and can’t wait to meet everyone in the MPS community!

SEMESTER REPORTS

Teachers are very busily finalising their end of semester two reports so that they are available on COMPASS on Wednesday 18th Dec. The report aims to provide consistent, clear and concise information to parents about your child’s achievement against state-wide standards.

These reports will include the following information:

Overview of learning covered
A General comment on your child as a learner
Progression point (dots) indicating your child’s learning progress
All Specialists will have a page outlining the curriculum indicators delivered
Section indicating your child’s behaviours in relation to their efforts shown across the semester
Student reflection

We encourage you to take the time to read the report and use this as a valuable tool for reflecting with your child on their learning over the course of the semester.

To access your child’s reports, log into Compass, click on ‘View Academic Reports’ and select ‘Semester 2 Reports 2024’. This will download onto your device, which can then be saved and/or printed.

If you are leaving our school community reports will not be available after 20th December. You will be automatically removed from Moorabbin Compass portal

All Year 6 families and other families who are departing our school are encouraged to download all copies of their children’s reports as soon as possible. All reports can be downloaded in PDF format.

SOIREE

It was a warm Wednesday afternoon, where Ms Howden showcased the culmination of all our students hard work across this term in Music. Every year level performed an item, and it was well received by our community who came along to be part of this last whole school event.

A huge thank you to our P&F and all those fantastic parents who came along and helped with the end of year BBQ. This now concludes their calendar of events and on behalf of the students, the staff and our parents I would like to formally acknowledge the incredible work and efforts by all involved this year and we look forward to a new committee being formed and all the wonderful events that will be scheduled in 2025!

COLOUR FUN RUN

Well done to everyone for a brilliant Colour run! The children were so excited to be part of the event and have themselves covered with powder and water while they went through the obstacles. It's always fun for the parents to use this opportunity to squirt and “slime” the children with the coloured powder and watch the joy along with the squeals of delight.

Thank you to all our families who made a donation, we raised $14,649.80! AMAZING!!!

As mentioned in last week's edition all the monies raised this year will be going toward the upgrade of the basketball court. Below is a very basic image of what we can expect. The works will commence once the builders remove the fencing along the perimeter of the current basketball court.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP GROUP FOR 2025

As we explore the concept of student leadership, it's essential to recognise that success doesn't always look the same for everyone. Leadership is about growth, learning, and resilience. Not every initiative will go as planned, and that's perfectly okay.

Encouraging our students to take on leadership roles is about more than just achieving goals; it's about developing skills like teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. Each experience, whether successful or not, provides valuable lessons that contribute to their personal growth.

We should celebrate their efforts and the courage it takes to firstly, put yourself out there to your peers regardless of the outcome. Gratitude plays a crucial role here—being thankful for the opportunity to learn, for the support of peers, and for the chance to develop as individuals.

In this way, we can help our students understand that leadership is not solely about accolades but about the journey of self-discovery and making a positive impact, however big or small. Let's encourage them to embrace every experience with gratitude and to see each challenge as a stepping stone toward becoming effective leaders in the future.

FINAL DAY ARRANGEMENTS

As is somewhat traditional at our school, the final school day of 2024 concludes with an assembly to be held either on the school oval or in front of the junior building from 1.00pm with dismissal at 1.30pm with the opportunity, in particular, to focus on and farewell our graduates. LOST PROPERTY

We currently have a lot of jackets and containers in lost property with no names on them. Please come and have a look through to see if any might belong to your child. These are located in the “breeze way” just behind the office”. Any containers, bottles, socks and toys not collected will be thrown out and jackets/jumpers donated to the 2nd hand store.
