This year, PSSA will run in a Gala Day format. Games will occur in Week 3 and Week 5 on Fridays for Term 1, with backup days in Week 4 and Week 6 in case of wet weather. On these days, students will play multiple games, which will run for most of the day.
The final Summer PSSA trials were held this morning. Students who received a callback, along with any willing absent or new students during the first trial, had the opportunity to attend the final trial. Successful students have been notified, and a note will be sent home via School Bytes.
The first Gala Day will be on Friday 14, which is next week.
Our Swimming Carnival will take place on Wednesday 5 March, in Week 6 at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. This year, the carnival will be limited to competitors only, meaning that only students participating in the races will be allowed to attend. This decision aims to streamline the event and focus on the participants.
A competitor is defined as a strong swimmer who can competently swim 50 meters of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, or butterfly in deep water without stopping or holding onto the side of the pool or ropes.
All students from Years 3 to 6, as well as Year 2 students who are turning 8 years old this year, will receive a permission note via School Bytes. It is important that all families complete the permission note—please select 'no' if your child will not be participating. We look forward to seeing all our competitors at the pool in Week 6!
Our Sports House Captains will attend the event to cheer on our competitors.
Zone Tennis trials will be held on the February 18 at the Tennis Academy in Roseville. Please email Ms Holstein at rani.holstein@det.nsw.edu.au if you feel your child would qualify to trial for a zone competition.
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) is a yearly assessment designed to measure student knowledge and skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and numeracy. NAPLAN testing will occur for Year 3 & 5 this term in Week 7 & 8. Students will need a set of headphones to use during the tests which have an aux connection. We will remind students again closer to the assessment date.
It’s always wonderful to have our students in classrooms, ready to engage and learn. Our teachers and school staff are committed to fostering growth and opportunity, and we are here to work with you to support your child to reach their full potential.
Consistently going to school has countless benefits – from learning, to creating social connections and improving wellbeing through access to support and quality education.
Students are required to attend school every day, whether it’s the first or last day of the term, Mondays, Fridays or days dedicated to sports carnivals, school excursions and incursions.
As we look ahead to the remainder of the school year, I’d like to remind our school community that we are here to work with you to support your child to thrive. We know that families experience a variety of challenging circumstances, and we are committed to working with you to address any barriers to regular attendance.
If your child is absent from school, please let us know why as soon as possible, even if it’s just a few minutes at the start or end of the school day. Of course, there will be times when your child is unable to be at school, like when they are unwell. Medical appointments should take place outside school hours where possible, and family holidays should be taken in term breaks.
If your child is feeling anxious about coming to school and you need support, please reach out to your child’s teacher or to me directly. There are also helpful resources for parents and carers on the NSW Department of Education website.
Thank you for being a part of our school community and for partnering with us to ensure students access the endless benefits of regular school attendance.
