Principal's Report
Michelle Mackenlay
With only 2 weeks left of this term, I have a few reminder for all students and their families.
My first reminder is about hats. We follow advice and recommendations from the Cancer Council's Sunsmart program. In Victoria, UV levels can be unpredictable and therefore students will require their hat to be available at school, year round, as we may experience a day of high UV levels at any time of year.
I also want to remind families of the following important dates as we get closer to school holidays.
Term 1 finishes on Friday 4th April - all students finish at 2:30pm
Term 2 starts on Tuesday 22nd April
In the first week back of Term 2, we are only at school for 3 days, as the Monday and Friday are both Public Holidays.
On the first Thursday back of Term 2 we will be holding our ANZAC Day Service.
We have our final whole school assembly for the term on Monday 31st March at 9:10am.
Parents are welcome to attend. This will include the badge presentation to our Student Representative Council (SRC).
A huge well done to our Year 3 and Year 5 students for completing NAPLAN! We know these tasks can be challenging, but our students tackled them with resilience and a positive mindset.
To start each day right, Clyde Primary School provided a delicious breakfast to fuel their minds. A big thank you to our amazing staff for making sure our students felt prepared and supported.
Parent Conferences need to be booked in before 4:00pm next Wednesday 26th March.
Your child’s teacher will have sent you a direct Compass message explaining one of the 2 options below:
1)Your attendance is encouraged as I wish to discuss child’s progress this term.
or,
2)You are welcome to attend if you wish to discuss anything with the teacher, however at this stage, the teacher does not have any specific areas of concern about your child's progress this term.
To make things a little easier there are different ways we can conduct the conference. If you would prefer a phone or WebEx conference, please contact the teacher directly by compass message or email clyde.ps@education.vic.gov.au with your request.
Our school has just been awarded Silver level of achievement in the Department of Education's School Wide Positive Behaviour Supports program (SWPBS).
Silver level of acknowledgement recognises that our school focuses on teaching and encouraging positive behaviour, supporting all students, and providing extra help to those who need it.
Implementing SWPBS is a multi-year journey, typically taking between 3 to 5 years. Our next steps include:
Whilst Mr Russell leads the School Wide Positive Behaviours program at Clyde PS, it takes a whole school effort to understand the strategies and practice the behaviours. Our students have shown a terrific understanding of our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility, and what these look like in certain areas of our school. They also work very hard to display these behaviours, which are rewarded in their classrooms on individual token boards. Ch
This week, Mrs Foden, who teaches 4A has announced she is pregnant, with her third child. Mrs Foden will start her Family Leave in early Term 3, and we wish her all the best for the upcoming birth.
All students are invited to attend a workshop incursion on Wednesday 2nd April with Ganga Giri. Ganga Giri, will transport our students through his demonstration of the
unique sound of the didgeridoo, animal sounds and solo rhythms accompanied by dynamic, original, electronic beats.
Apart from Ganga’s interactive musical performance students will also enjoy learning about the history of the didgeridoo and its making, other traditional musical instruments, hunting tools, and more! Payments and permission are due on Compass by Wednesday 25th March.
From next week, raffle tickets are being sold outside the office every morning (8:45am-9am) and every afternoon (3:15pm-3:30pm).
Donations are still needed!
Last Wednesday 12th March, individualised photo order forms were sent home with your children. This had their order code on them.
If you have miss-placed this order form, you can request your child's code at the office.
Please remember that the School Photo Day is next Tuesday 25th March.
Students must wear full school uniform and should be neat and presentable.
The SRC are proud to present their first fundraising event for 2025:
2025 Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open, and we are very excited to be participating. The Challenge is open to all Clyde Primary students from Foundation to Year 6 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by the 5th of September 2025.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
Your child’s login details will be sent home this week so you can visit the PRC website https://vprc.eduweb.vic.gov.au/home and your child can:
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/premiers-reading-challenge
This year, the Challenge is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the theme ‘20 years of words and wonder’ and a year of special activities. For details, follow the Premiers Reading Challenge Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/VicPRC/
Should you have any questions regarding the Challenge, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher, or contact our school’s Challenge coordinators, Sharon Barker (Year 2) and Ben Hale (Year 6).
Happy reading everyone!!
