Grade 1/2 Area

Ms. Stella Baker-Campbell, Ms. Kate Lyon, Ms. Elizabeth Higham, Ms. Sarah Castellas and Ms. Emily Giliam

Hello from 1/2D! We are excited to show you some of the work we have been doing so far this term. This sun will greet you on our classroom door - it shows the promises 1/2D have made to ensure we have a fabulous year together.

Wellbeing

Recently we have been learning about our personal strengths, those of others and how to give and receive compliments. Shown here are our "Personal Strength" clouds, where we are displaying a number of our favourite qualities about ourselves. I (Ms. Emily) particularly enjoy this display in our classroom, because it reminds us of the fantastic qualities every person in our class has. When learning to give compliments, it was suggested that excellent compliments refer to someone's personal strengths. This means our clouds can help us to give excellent compliments to one another too!

Discovery

This term in Discovery, we have been learning about community, values and what these things look like in our own lives. We have just started our "All About Me" projects this week, which we will be completing over these final weeks of term. Thank you to families for your support with these projects, by assisting your child to complete a timeline of key events in their life and provision of photographs from home.

Harmony Day

On Friday (March 21st) we celebrated Harmony Day, recognising and celebrating the diversity of our school, our communities and our nation. Our learning this term in Discovery has helped us to better understand what Harmony Day is about, and in 1/2D, we created a display of flowers as an ongoing reminder about what "harmony" means.

Dancing

On Tuesday (March 18th), the Grade 1/2s began learning a Japanese-inspired dance which we will be performing at the Cultural Showcase on Tuesday, April 1st. We hope that many families will be able to join us that afternoon to watch our performance. Students (and teachers!) will be working hard over the next week or so to remember and refine our dance moves.
