Prep Area

Mrs Amy Gagliardi, Mrs Josie Stocchero and Miss Jordan Neighbour

We've been busy in the Prep area doing lots of learning over the past 2 weeks.

We have been learning our letter sounds this term. As we have nearly finished learning all 26 sounds, the Preps have begun doing some dictation sentence writing. It has been fabulous to see the students using their letter-sound knowledge and beginning knowledge of high-frequency words to sound out words in a simple sentence.

Every Friday the Preps participate in a language experience during the morning literacy block. These activities encourage students to develop their oral language. Last Friday, the Preps made butterflies using cellophane. Make sure you take a look around the Prep corridors as you'll see a lot of butterflies on our windows!

In Maths, we've been continuing our number work to 20. Students have been introduced to tens frames as a way of counting hands-on materials to represent a given number. We've also played number games like bingo to help with number recognition.

Finally, the last 2 weeks have had some extra-curricular activities for the Preps. Last week there was an NRL clinic on the oval.

Students learnt how to:

Hold a rugby ball

Run in a zig zag line

How to steal tags

How to make a try

How to squash bugs with the ball

On Monday, we had a Cultural Diversity Incursion. The Preps were learning a Chinese dance called 'La la la'. We will perform this dance in 2 weeks.

It's been a fabulous 2 weeks in Prep.

The Prep teachers cannot believe we only have a few more weeks left in Term 1. The students have done an incredible job this term!
