Year 9 Impact Program

Year 9 2025 Walk-a-thon Fundraiser
Mark Williams, Head of Year 9 Impact Program
On Friday 5 September, our Year 9s will walk from Kilvington to Federation Square as part of their preparation for the upcoming Transformative Expeditions to Cape York and South West Victoria.
Both experiences will involve community service and meaningful engagement with First Nations people and their cultures.
Funds raised through this Walk-a-thon will directly support these initiatives, benefiting Indigenous communities through the enterprises, Red Earth and Worn Gundidj.
Donations can be made here.
Term 3 Impact Workshops
Lachie Griplas and Dion Krivonos, Year 9
When Term 3 began, Year 9s resumed their Friday adventures through the city. However, this term our focus shifted to health, wellbeing and character development, and preparation for our upcoming Transformative Expeditions.
We began with mental health first aid training, delivered by experienced professionals. These sessions taught us how to assist someone experiencing mental health challenges.
We learned to recognise warning signs, approach sensitive conversations with care, and connect people to the right resources. This training also encouraged open, respectful discussions about mental health, helping to break down stigma.
These sessions were incredibly helpful, and have given us greater confidence on how to step in and support someone in need. We feel better equipped on how to look after not only our own wellbeing, but also the wellbeing of our friends, family and community.
We also participated in Sexual Health lessons run by Elephant Ed. Led by young and relatable facilitators, we explored real-world topics such as consent. We learned how to recognise boundaries, communicate respectfully, and understand the importance of mutual agreement in any situation.
Overall, it was a great experience to learn new things that aren’t typically covered in the standard school curriculum. The lessons were engaging and relevant to our lives, and it's safe to say we left feeling more confident and prepared for the future.
