100 Days of Prep

Our fabulous Preps have officially reached 100 Days of Prep!

This week, they marked this milestone in style, arriving as the most adorable group of 100-year-olds you’ve ever seen.

The celebrations began with a heart-warming parade for their proud parents, before diving into a jam-packed day of activities, treats and giggles.

And because 100 days deserves nothing less, they wrapped it all up with a bright, loud, pumping disco! Congratulations to our Preps, here’s to the first 100 days, and all the adventures still to come!

Preps meet with Fire Rescue Victoria

Excitement levels were sky-high when our Preps welcomed our local Fire Rescue Victoria heroes to School!

The students learned all about the importance of fire safety at home and in the community, then got to climb inside the fire engine, explore the equipment, and even experience the power of the high-pressure firefighting hoses in action.

A huge thank you to Fire Rescue Victoria for inspiring our young learners and showing them what it means to serve and protect with courage.

Year 2 Talk for Writing

Karina McCowan, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

The Year 2s have been working hard on their new Talk for Writing topic, Supertato

Talk for Writing is a teaching method that helps students learn stories through listening, actions and role play, before they begin writing their own versions. This approach builds their confidence and understanding of story structure.

We started by reading and learning the Supertato story together. We used actions to help remember the key parts and sequence of the story. The students enjoyed joining in with repeated phrases and movements, which helped them to remember the story more easily.

After this, they acted out different scenes in small groups. This gave them a chance to step into the characters’ roles and think about their feelings and motivations.

As part of the unit, the students drew their own pictures of Supertato and talked about the qualities that make a good hero, like bravery, kindness or quick thinking. These discussions helped them to deepen their understanding of character traits and storytelling.

At the moment, the class is in the ‘innovation’ stage of the Talk for Writing process. They are working on creating their own superhero stories, which is set in a zoo,by coming up with their own ideas and characters. This stage encourages creativity while applying the writing skills they’ve been learning.

Throughout the unit, we have been focusing on key writing skills. The students are practising using adjectives and adverbs to add detail and interest to their stories. They are also learning how to use speech marks correctly to show when characters are speaking. Onomatopoeia - words that imitate sounds - has been another exciting focus, helping to make their writing lively and engaging.

We can’t wait to read the final outcomes from this super piece of work! Well done, Year 2!

Multiplex Women in Construction Jump Start Program

Recently, six of our Years 10 and 11 students swapped the classroom for a construction site through the Multiplex Women in Construction Jump Start program, designed to help lay the foundations for their future careers.

Avery Liew, Charlotte Ignasiak, Ciara Short, Linda Zhu, Maggie Harrison and Vicky Tian suited up in safety gear for a behind-the-scenes look at a real working site.

This was a valuable opportunity for our students to gain insight into the diverse and exciting career pathways available in the construction and engineering industries.
