Hello Everyone,

Student Toilets

This is a reminder to parents, that adults are NOT to use the student toilets. Due to child safe reasons, the toilets are to be used only by students. Should you be at school and need to use the toilet, please speak to the office.

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

Deer Park West Primary School commenced our formal implementation of the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework in 2023.

We established a Positive Climate Team consisting of members of our SWPBS staff, RR staff and Wellbeing staff, to ensure a comprehensive approach to analysing the data and implementing appropriate supports. The school has invested in providing time for the team to meet. During this time, the team use the Big 5 data set to identify any areas of concern and determine what supports to be put into place, including re-teaching skills needed to prevent further unexpected behaviours. We would like to thank our parent rep, Melanie, for taking the time to be part of the team twice a term to discuss the data and assist with recommendations.

Our data sets between Term 3 2023 and Term 3 2024 demonstrates the positive impact SWPBS has had in our school, especially as we embed consistent expectations across the school. The aim is to have no more than 5% of our students with 6+ major behaviour incidents, and no more than 15% of our students with 2-5 major behaviour incidents. The Term 3 2023 data was collated just before the reintroduction of SWPBS in our school.

Term 3 2023

The Term 3 2024 data demonstrates the impact of having consistent expectations and a clear Matrix, co-constructed by students (part of SWPBS), is having.

Term 3 2024

SWPBS has also contributed to our Attitudes to School Survey (completed by students in years 4-6) results showing an improvement in students’ Sense of Connectedness and Inclusion at school.

We are looking forward to launching Classroom Systems in 2025, where further strategies to support a positive environment within the classroom will be implemented.
