2024 in Review
2024 has certainly been a significant year for our school. This year our students performed the best that they ever have in NAPLAN in my 11 years as Principal of Deer Park West Primary School. Our student, staff and parent survey data was also excellent, and I am really proud to be leading such a cohesive and wonderful community who are all focused on what is best for our students.
These achievements were also reflected in the extensive School Review process conducted by an independent auditor and a panel, which acknowledged the outstanding progress the school has been making over the past four years. The recommendations from this process now forms our 2025-2029 Strategic Plan and it will inform our Annual Implementation Plans until the next review in four years’ time.
It has also been wonderful to be recognised as outstanding practitioners in a caring community via the feedback from parents, kindergarten and secondary school staff and external agencies working with us. Our Foundation and Year 6 Transition Programs with additional activities for identified students is a real strength of the school. The secondary schools are always very complimentary about our students.
We organised many different excursions and incursion to broaden our students’ experiences, knowledge of the world and their social and emotional skills. These included Foundation Breakfast, Year 1 and 2 Dinners, long day excursions, Year 5 Camp as well as sporting events such as athletics, interschool sports, cross country, swimming just to name a few. We also enjoyed many special events such as the Colour Run, Crazy Hair Day, Book Week, End of Term Celebrations of Learning, Foundation afternoon teas as well as our Vietnamese parent’s sessions.
Foundation 2025 last session
Congratulations to our kindergarten children who completed their Transition Program on Wednesday. They have come a long way this term because of the weekly sessions, where they built their confidence, got to know each other and the school. The children are learning to sit and listen to a story, to take turns, to share and to play cooperatively and I know this will make the start of next year much smoother.
Thank you to all the families who supported their children to attend these sessions. We look forward to the children starting next year. Please remember that during the first week, students are scheduled for a one-to-one meeting with their teacher. If you need any more information, please contact the office.
Environmental Area
It is anticipated that the Sensory Garden area of our new environmental space will be open tomorrow.
Last week of the school year
I’m looking forward to the last week of events, including our whole school concert tomorrow, and the Year 6 Graduation next week.
See you all at the concert tomorrow…don’t forget to bring a chair to sit on and a hat.
