Year 8 Geography

Two of our Year 8 Geography classes were lucky enough to visit The Great Stupa in Bendigo recently. A Stupa is the most sacred building in Buddhism.

Students walked around the beautiful Peace Park and inside the Stupa to see the many features of traditional large Tibetan Gompas including large statues of Buddhas and deities.

The beautiful gardens surrounding the Stupa and the Peace Park showcase symbols from many different faiths including Catholic, Sikh, Islam, Hindu and Buddhist. Students are currently learning about the causes and consequences of urban concentration and urban settlement patterns between Australia and around the world.

The Great Stupa allowed students to experience traditions and knowledge of Buddhism and see it as an example of how the Buddhist community has been accepted into the wider Australian society.

Students will now summarise their findings and discuss the possible challenges of managing and planning Australia’s urban future and urban concentration especially in our regional area.
