Sports Report

Victorian All Schools Track & Field Championships

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships in Melbourne over the past two weekends.

Amalie Southern (Year 7) competed in the 400m and 800m events with consistent running. Scarlett Southern (Year 11) juggled two Year 12 exams and managed to compete in two events. Scarlett won her heat in the 400m qualifying for the final and ran 4th with a personal best time of 58.78! Scarlett also qualified for the 800m final and came 5th with a personal best time of 2.20!

Nate Smith (Year 7) competed in the 200m and Long Jump, and came equal 3rd in the Pole Vault! Nate has also been selected to compete in New Zealand in January 2024 with the Little Athletics Victoria Development Team. What an incredible experience for Nate and we wish him the best of luck!

State Quarter Finals Cricket Year 9&10 Boys

The Year 9/10 Intermediate Boys cricket team travelled to Bendigo for the Loddon Mallee Regional Quarter Finals on Thursday 2 November to take on the defending champions, Catherine McAuley College Bendigo.

On a perfect morning for cricket and playing on a very quick outfield, our captain Hudson Kellett won the toss and elected to bat. After a shaky start we consolidated in the middle parts of the innings through the solid contributions of Archie Teasdale, Ollie Williams, Liam Edge, Ky Henson and Liam Gronow, to post a respectable target of 132 after 20 overs.

Defending that target on a quick outfield against a very strong batting line up was always going to be a difficult ask. Some tight bowling at times, mixed with some wayward line and length meant that Bendigo was always in control of the run chase. They tied our score with 11 balls remaining but with great fighting spirit our boys never gave in, resulting in Bendigo failing to score off the next eight deliveries, before finally posting the winning runs off the second last ball to finish what was an excellent game of junior cricket!

Overall, it was an admirable and valiant effort against a very competitive side and our boys should be proud of the overall campaign which saw us progress to the Quarter Finals and be declared runners up in the Loddon Mallee Region.

State Finals

We proudly have three teams heading off to compete in the State Finals for Basketball and Tennis next week! This is an amazing achievement to represent our school at such a high level. We hope these students enjoy the experience and have fun participating at some outstanding venues in Melbourne. You are already winners to us but we hope you play well and remember to demonstrate strength and kindliness wherever you go!

On Monday we will be sending postivite vibes to our Year 7 boys basketball team along with their coach Ms Baker in their pursuit at MSAC. Our very best wishes also go to Mr Beck and the Year 8 girls basketball team as they line up against the very best in the state on Tuesday!
