SCIENCE

Foundation Students have been looking at the weather- weather patterns and symbols and how we can predict the weather. We have read stories,  looked at the clouds, and watched a weather report on the ABC to look at what symbols they use to identify different types of weather, and even created some class weather books!. Here are some weather symbol collections!

Grade1/2 have engaged in many discussions about water - where does it come from, where does it go?

We have introduced labels such as ground water, water table and surface water, and investigated how we get ground water from the water table up to the surface to be used in farming practice.

The children used models of the water table and using pumps to further their understanding of this.

Grade 3/47 have continued their investigations of night and day, recognising that night time falls when we are on the side of the earth in shadow, which of course creates darkness.

We had different size balls to model how the sun and moon often look the same size, even though the sun is much bigger.

This is of course related to the distance between the Earth, and the Sun or the Earth and the moon.

Over the past couple of weeks, Grade 5/6 students were set the task of creating a poster about a volcano.

They were given set criteria to research and present as a poster, with time in both the science classes and their classrooms to complete this.
