2025 European Music Tour Announcement!

Following the success of the 2023 tour, I am pleased to announce that the School Board has considered and approved a proposal for the next European Music Tour scheduled for April 2025. The two-week itinerary is built around competing at biannual Budapest International Choir Festival and Competition in the week prior to Easter. Whilst it is primarily a choral event, the organisers are also ensuring that our instrumental music can also be showcased within the festival program.  

The current plans are to arrive in Munich, Germany on the first weekend of our April School Holidays, and amongst other plans, we will take a trip out to see the infamous Neuschwanstein Castle (the one on which Disneyland Castle is based). We then head to Salzburg, Austria, well known for Mozart’s birthplace and its connection to The Sound of Music. Following visiting and performing in some other delightful places in Austria, we travel to Vienna to explore and this epicentre of classical music.  

Next on the journey is the capital of Hungary, Budapest in time to participate in the three-day choral festival (which also incorporates some amazing sightseeing). Following the gala finale concert we trek to nearby picturesque Bratislava, Slovakia (our fourth and final country!). A short distance from here is Vienna International Airport for our departure back to Melbourne, arriving on Easter Sunday. Our first week of Term 2 in 2025 fortunately contains the Easter Monday holiday, a student-free day, and ANZAC Day holiday, so recovery from the tour should be reasonably feasible! 

Students who are in Years 8 through to Year 12 in 2025 and are members of a Huntingtower instrumental ensemble or choir are eligible to apply for the tour. Places are limited and offers to applicants will be made on a range of criteria, including musical standard and year level. The school supports and encourages Year 12 students to travel on this tour. We hope to replicate the ensemble configuration of the 2023 Tour (i.e., Tour Chorale, Tour Orchestra, and other offshoot groups) but this will of course depend on the skillsets of the applicants.

Positions on the tour are confirmed with a deposit after an offer has been made in March 2024.
