School of Entrepreneurs

From the SOE Head of School
Dear students and families of the School of Entrepreneurs community,
Welcome to the final term of the year!
The last week of Term 3 was very eventful as we farewelled our very first Year 12 cohort. As we approach the culmination of another remarkable academic year, it is with both pride and nostalgia that we gather to recognise and bid farewell to our incredible Year 12 students. The culmination of their high school journey is marked by the upcoming HSC conclusion on Friday, November 3rd. These young minds have shown their unwavering dedication to learning and are models of what resilience looks like in the face of academic pressure. On Thursday 21st September, they also celebrated with staff, family and friends the milestone of their Year 12 graduation and moments from their unforgettable formal. We have watched them grow, learn, and transform into the remarkable individuals they are today, and we have every confidence that they will finish their HSC examinations strong and with the same determination and persistence. As they embark on this final chapter, let us wish them the best of luck and success in all their endeavours. Your St Luke’s family will always be here to support and cheer you on as you step into the bright futures that await you. Congratulations, Year 12!
As we farewell the outgoing Year 12s we recognise the incoming Year 12s who have this term commenced their HSC study. As these students embark on the culminating year of secondary school, it is essential that they dig deep early on and strive to be the best academic version of themselves. During their HSC they are advised to: ask lots of questions, start their study notes now and complete these each week, look for the ‘one percenters’ that they want to exercise in their study that will put them ahead of the game, complete practice HSC exam style style questions and submit these for feedback and submit drafts of their assessment. It is also important that they consciously protect and look after their wellbeing by ensuring they make time for family and friends, sleep, exercise, preparing nutritious meals and talking to their parents and teachers about how they are going and strategising to help relieve some of the pressure they may feel.
This term we also opened the last part of our construction, the School of Entrepreneurs building. Students have embraced and enjoyed the state of the art learning spaces and recognise the opportunities that this brings to their learning. This building was showcased to the community last week as we invited families to walk through our new facilities. We are very fortunate to have such contemporary spaces and know this will add further value to the learning and teaching experiences for the St Luke’s community.
Wishing everyone well as we prepare for the Christmas season.

9 LIFE DESIGN
Term 4 has Year 9 students exploring their Digital Footprint in order to ensure they have a positive impact now and into the future. They will use case studies, an external workshop from Optus Digital Thumbprint team and other activities to develop a cyber awareness piece for younger students. This unit will culminate in each student developing their own ePortfolio which showcases them at their best.
Optus Digital Thumbprint Incursion
When: 6th & 7th November 2023
10 LIFE DESIGN
This term, students are using their class time to achieve Micro Credentials in an area that supports their direction beyond Year 10. Before commencing, individuals have viewed and filtered a variety of short courses (free) from institutions such as EdX, Harvard, Open University and Future Learn.
There is also an opportunity for students to complete their White Card training thanks to Mrs Campanale who has organised this to be run onsite.
Our white card course is running on October 25 here at St Luke's. |
Cost $100 payable via the QKR! app (all fees go to Safe Work NSW) |
Students must have a USI number |
The training is from 8:30-3:30 PM (later than a normal day, transportation must be organised if catching school bus) |
Students will receive their certification on the day. |
Stage 6 Visual Arts
The art rooms have been buzzing this term with the move into our new art spaces! Year 12 Visual Arts have been introduced to the HSC course and are looking forward to developing their ideas around a particular interest investigated through an expressive form of choice. Year 12 are to be commended on their enthusiastic approach to the term!

Duke of Ed
On October 11-13th, 41 students embarked on a journey as part of The Duke of Ed Award. This hiking camp is a requirement of the Award and calls for team spirit, resilience, perseverance and a sense of adventure.
The hike took place on the Central Coast, starting from MacMasters Beach and onto the Bouddi Coastal Walk to Putty Beach, where we camped. As this was our second camp of the year, the students were required to take more initiative in leading the hike, communicating with one another and practising problem solving skills within their groups.
The 23 Bronze students (Year 9) returned via the reverse route the next day (where all the uphills became downhills and vice versa!) while the remaining 18 Silver students completed a loop of Box Head and Lobster Beach, offering spectacular views (and many steep stairs!). The students returned to the same campsite to enjoy a final night together before we returned via the Bouddi Coastal Walk for pick up on Friday afternoon.
The students should be commended on their level of collaboration, discipline, positive attitude and willingness to endeavour outside their comfort zone. Members of the public made many positive remarks about our young people and how well they represented themselves and our school. Now all our students have to do is continue dedicating themselves to their hours of physical recreation, skills and voluntary service in order to complete the entire Award. You can do it!
I would like to thank my fellow campers Mr Fucile, Mr Wittman and Mr Jones who generously gave up their personal time (and some sleep!) to support our students in achieving this component of the Award. This would not have been possible without you!
I encourage all families to enjoy our great outdoors together to appreciate the natural beauty of the world and to challenge yourselves just as our Year 9-10 students have. This website has some fantastic trails mapped out throughout NSW for all levels of experience. National Parks NSW has some information and advice on safety and planning your walk.

English
This term, our Stage 5 students (Year 9), will be undertaking a close study of the Gothic Literature Genre.
As an entry event, to springboard our students into a world of intrigue, mystery, all things supernatural and eerie, we created a haunted classroom.
Our students immersed themselves in a gallery walk where they perused iconic gothic characters, settings and themes.
Our driving question is: To what extent do Tim Burton’s works encapsulate the features of the Gothic Horror Genre ?
After exploring the quirky and engaging works of Tim Burton, our students will be challenged to create their own gothic representation, crafting characters, settings and complications.
These creative projects will be shared in a Spooky Showcase, later in the term.
We look forward to sharing this with you!
Stage 6 Science
Our new Science Labs are open, and our students are taking full advantage of the amazing new Science spaces! This is an exciting opportunity for our students, as it is not everyday that students get to use a brand new science laboratories. There has been a buzz in our Science labs, which are still in the process of being named after prominent and inspiring Scientists. Have a look at our new Science Lab’s below:
