Celebrating 10 years at MECS Kinder

This year marks MECS Kinder’s 10th Birthday anniversary. We celebrated the occasion at the recent EGM, with beautiful displays and play opportunities for participants. The Kinder team worked hard to collect learning journey documentation to showcase what we do at MECS Kinder. A special thank you to Jack and Maggie (Kinder Students) who made our night so special by leading us all in our Acknowledgement to Country.

On October 25 we shared a special dinner with current and past staff, and those who had a part to play in the opening back in 2013. We shared stories and memories of our time at MECS Kinder with all the emotions; the tough, funny, sad, and joyful. God's provision in all aspects of the creation and development of the kinder has been outstanding and His presence is known the minute you step inside our beautiful space.

The vision for a Kinder at MECS began with the idea that Christian Education starting with 3 and 4 year old children is important, where families began their Christian educational journey with their children and in community, right from the beginning.

During 2012 I began tasks such as purchasing all the furniture and equipment and employing staff, not to mention writing curriculum, mission statement, philosophy, and many compliance documents.

As more than expected enrolments started to roll in, and unborn babies joined the wait list, I employed more staff, wrote policies with Helen Damster… January 2013 was very busy, unpacking, setting up, and overseeing the playground development. After booking the compliance check for our license we were approved (at 5pm the Friday before-phew!) to open our doors on Monday 4 February 2013.

Everything in our Kinder is created with a purpose, from routines to deep investigations, from interactive imaginative play, to cleaning up together. We strive toward purposeful learning in everything we do. Learning in our kinder is for appreciation, understanding and service. When I think about a garden, it’s a place that heightens my senses, all I can see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. We believe our wonderful kinder is a place that does just that for children. A place that opens such wonder and interest, that draws them in to a learning journey filled with exploration and delight.

Over the years we have had, and now have wonderful kindergarten staff, to whom I am so grateful. All of whom diligently provide beautiful learning experiences, intentionality in their interactions with the children to promote learning and through loving relationships care for the children.

We are delighted and grateful for the wonderful beginning we had, and the amazing 10 years of adventures as MECS Kinder has developed and grown.

We look forward to the continued journey and the hope we have in Christ Jesus, as he carries us into the future, at MECS Kindergarten.
