Student Reflections

My favourite part was the flying fox, because I was so scared and I did it! Yay! I think I was a rock star. I faced my fear. I am glad I did it, my future self would be proud!

I found the rock climbing and flying fox the most challenging because I’m scared of heights but still did it. I overcame the challenges by knowing God is with me and he will never make me do a dangerous thing.

During camp I had a lot of fun and I got to play with my friends and build my friendships.

My favourite part was everything because it was so fun. The archery was one of the most funnest of them all. I even hit a balloon to help my team. In my next camp I would be not as scared as this camp. When I was on top of the rock wall I was scared and when I gave it a go, I liked it.

My favourite part of camp was the Ice Cream Drop and the Scavenger Hunt. The Ice Cream Drop was fun because I like to craft things and the Scavenger hunt because I like to challenge myself.

My favourtie part of camp was the flying fox, because it reduced my fear of heights and it was fun. Another of my favourites was the Damper cooking, because the fire kept you warm and it was very delicious and scrumptious.

My favourite part of camp was learning how to do a flip, cartwheel and handstand on the trampoline because I have always wanted to do one but it was really scary, but I overcame that fear.

I was happy about camp, because I pushed through my comfort zone, I did something different at this camp and I had different people in my cabin I didn’t know before.

The nervous excitement as the climbing harness is put on. The slow clomp up the stairs of the scaffolding. Heart rate racing, the stepping off, falling, the rush followed by the buzz as you sail between the trees and over the dam. The flying fox would be one of the top three events of the MP camp, closely followed by the archery and the climbing wall.

Seeing students push themselves, overcome fear and the feeling of excitement that comes after that, is part of what makes education outside of the classroom so rewarding. But what is talked about less is the number of times peer to peer encouragement is occurring. From the student that is watching out for someone else and creates space next to them at the dining table so that they are included in the group. To negotiations around sharing turns at the futsal table all the way to the cheering and support as they step of the platform after having a very nervous climb to the top. Each are great examples of students supporting each other, learning to work as a team and ultimately demonstrating the heart of caring that we want each of our students to develop. Middle Primary camp had all of that and more.

eSmart School

Education is going through some big changes! It's not just about reading, writing, and math anymore. Now, we have to be super smart on the internet and know how to use digital technologies safely and effectively. That's why MECS has been on a special journey to become an eSmart School.

Becoming an eSmart School is like putting on a superhero cape. We don't just use technology; we learn how to be safe and smart online. We teach each other to be kind, respectful, and super careful on the internet and with the use of digital technologies. We also learn how to tell what's true and what's not, and we even get ready for future jobs using tech.

We're not doing this alone. Our amazing teachers are becoming tech experts too, and we’re encouraging our parents to join in on the adventure. We want to be a team working together and doing fun projects with technology.

By being eSmart, we're getting ready for the future. Technology is changing the world, and we want to use it in the best way possible.

And guess what? MECS is now officially an eSmart School! We've got plans in place to help every student learn how to be awesome on the internet and with the use of digital technologies. Go, team MECS! 🌟🚀

Prep Athletics

On Friday morning last week the Preps and their families enjoyed the Prep Athletics Day. God blessed the day with sunny weather as students showed their skills learnt in PE this year. They showcased their ability to throw overarm with vortex. Some students even managed to hit the big tree when throwing from the gaga pit.

Each activity was done in groups of 10 which rotated around the lower oval area. More throwing skills were demonstrated with an underarm beanbag throw into hoops. All students received ribbons in the relay races after demonstrating what great sprinters they all are. Students also showed how good they are at jumping from a standing position.

A key component of our curriculum this year has included learning how their body is a gift from God which they get to enjoy doing physical activities. The morning was a great opportunity to enjoy the gifts God gives us. Parents and friends cheered and smiled throughout the morning.
