On Thursday the 12th of October, we hosted our 2023 Annual Women’s Health forum in collaboration with Dandenong South Primary School. Despite the rain and cold weather, the event was a huge success with close to one hundred women and children attending the day.

We started the day with an Acknowledge of Country from our student leaders from both campuses and were then treated to a wonderful welcome dance from Djirri Djiiri, a Wurundjeri led female dance group. It was incredible to watch First Nation’s people connecting to their culture  whilst it allowed us to make our own reflections and connections to our own culture.

The day was then followed by health workshops presented by The Waterwell Project and The Multi-Cultural Women’s Centre for Health. Topics that were discussed were plantar fasciitis (pain under the heel), lower back pain, pelvic floor, urinary tract infections (UTIs) and contraception options. In addition, the women participated in a rotation of workshops that included Zumba, understanding Mental Health and Wellbeing as facilitated by Better Place Australia and basic first aid as facilitated by Life Saving Victoria.

The women enjoyed our delicious coffee, Chobani yoghurt, free showbags and lunch catered for by Free Burma Kitchen and a local Afghani bakery. We didn’t forget the children too with lots of activities such as face painting, games and an animal farm.

The day was a huge success and we thank the community and partner organisations who came together to make this day one to remember. The response we had from the Dandenong South Primary Community Hub is that we made them feel very welcomed and they had lots of fun. We look forward to the next annual forum and we already have things planned for next year!
