Multi-Cultural Kitchen Program

Multi-Cultural Kitchen Program from Both Campusus

The MLC on Heights continue to enjoy learning new skills and tasting new ingredients in their kitchen classes. Students are becoming more skilled in their use of kitchen utensils and are continuing to improve their safe knife skills and we are confident that some students will be awarded their Knife Licence before the end of term.

We have been learning about foods from different nationalities and we have completed a project on our favourite food. Students shared the history of their favourite food, and we learnt some interesting facts about the history of hamburgers, pho, sushi and pizza.

Some recipes we have prepared recently included Chilli ‘non’ Carne, homemade pizza, Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) and pikelets. Our students would love to be able to prepare some of these dishes at home for their families to enjoy.

As the weather warms up, we hope to be able to cook and enjoy more produce growing in our school garden.

Wow, what a bunch of wonderful chefs we have. The Grade 3’s and 4’s here at Springvale Campus have really put their newfound skills to good use.

After coming out of a very cold winter our veggie garden was looking quite empty, but now it is getting warmer our veggie garden is starting to take off. The cabbages were put to good use and with-it MLC made some fantastic Japanese Okonomiyaki and Sushi Cup Cakes.

The Multi-Cultural Kitchen program has seen the MLC students eat food from India, Japan, Vietnam and France just to name a few.

The focus is always on pleasurable and healthy eating, and everyone is really embracing this philosophy.
