Performing Arts

'Singin in the Rain JR’ was announced as this year’s whole school musical production at a fun ‘production reveal’ last Thursday. Excited students gathered in the Bampi to watch our Arts Leaders, Callum, Hana and Scarlett, share their creative clues. A whole school drumroll followed, before the orchestral overture cued our fabulous staff to begin an umbrella flash-mob!

Congratulations to Annie in Year 2 who won the competition for guessing this year’s show.

Last term in Performing Arts, the Year 6 students studied the transition from silent movies to ‘The Talkies’. They will now apply their knowledge of this era as they explore the script and songs for the show, before preparing auditions for lead roles.

Grades across the school will each study a different performance specialty to match their class items – ranging from learning circus skills, vaudeville comedy, Broadway show dancing and clowning to tap dancing.

This year, in addition to participation in class items, students in Years 4-6 will have the opportunity to audition for a special song and dance ensemble. This ensemble is designed to give students who have advanced skills in dancing and singing the opportunity to extend those skills outside the classroom. More information will be posted through Compass.

Our production will be a one-night only event, so make sure you save the date:

Wednesday, December 10 at George Wood Performing Arts Centre, Yarra Valley Grammar School.

We can’t wait!
