Principal Message

As we head into week 4 of term 2 there is no slowing down. In fact, we are gearing up for an Open morning to celebrate Education Week which is from May 19 - May 23.
This year's theme is Celebration of Cultures. We are looking forward to putting on a week of activities to promote and celebrate all cultures. Students will explore their heritage and contribute to a world map as we find out where each of our student's cultural roots are.
We will be running an Open Morning on Thursday May 22nd for our existing students and families to attend. From 9:30 - 11:00am you can move around the school to participate in games inside and outside. We are so proud of our classroom and specialist teachers and the quality of the students work and I know will look forward to sharing with you.
Mother's Day Breakfast - Friday 9th May

Podcasting
Today all our Grade and Grade 6 students have participated in a day long incursion, creating their very own podcasts using the Audacity software. As part of our plan to improve the student voice and agency at WPS we are developing a podcast that will be written and recorded by our senior students. Leading this new concept will our Year 6 leader of Student Voice and Agency, Billy Witney. We will continue this role in 2026 and that leader steps into the podcasting role. They will work closely with myself and the Year 6 ICT leaders to work with students to record a Student Podcast delivering information, news and commentary on Warrandyte Primary school and our community in and out of school.
While our podcasting program will primarily be run by grade 6 students, we are getting our grade 5's ready through the delivery of this incursion and there is nothing to stop them for using podcasting as a legitimate way to present information in the classroom and beyond. We will not be limiting the podcasting to just the one recording. Students can record book reviews and present their inquiry projects via podcast, and I strongly believe it to be a valuable tool for students who may be struggling in their writing. For them to have a platform where they can record and present their ideas and work via audio should help to motivate and build confidence as they develop their speaking and listening skills also. When they Grade 5's do move into the Grade 6 classroom, they will be confident and ready to take over the reins.
Prep Building
Thank you to our Prep families, Prep students and staff for being so patient as we try to finish off our upgrade inside. The floor will be finished on Monday and cabinets will then be installed. All going well, we will be back into the double classroom sometime next week. Hopefully it will be worth the wait. Even with the old flooring stripped off, it looks better!
Have a wonderful week.
Take Care,
Nieta
