Pope Francis
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Pope Francis. His Holiness was a beacon of hope and compassion, whose teachings and actions profoundly impacted individuals, families, and communities across the world.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis walked in the footsteps of Jesus, extending compassion and dignity to the poor, the homeless, refugees and asylum seekers, the sick, those in prison, and all who were marginalised. His deep empathy and commitment to social justice inspired people of all faiths and backgrounds.
In the final week of his life, Pope Francis visited a prison in Rome — an act that reflected his lifelong ministry to those on the margins. He consistently demonstrated a profound respect for the dignity of every individual, embracing people from diverse backgrounds and communities and was a passionate advocate of Indigenous rights.
Today we had the opportunity as a school to attend Mass to celebrate the life of Pope Francis; to honour his legacy, to pray for him and give thanks for his spiritual guidance over the past 12 years.
Pope Francis has gone to be with God in heaven, but we still carry his message in our hearts. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
ANZAC Day
Each year we commemorate Anzac Day on 25th April. On that day in 1915, just as the sun was rising, soldiers from Australia and New Zealand landed at Gallipoli in Turkey. During the battle that occurred there, thousands of soldiers were killed or injured.
We remember with thanksgiving, those who made the supreme sacrifice for us in time of war. We pray that the offering of their lives may not have been in vain. Today we dedicate ourselves to the cause of justice, freedom and peace; and for the wisdom and strength to build a better world.
Gracious and loving God,
the cross of Christ
is the sign of your desire
for justice and peace for all.
Open our minds to your vision
as we remember all who suffered
through Australia and New Zealand’s
involvement in wars, conflicts
and peacekeeping operations.
Grant all servicepersons
who sacrificed health and life
for the good of all,
the gift of your deep peace.
May we who inherit the freedom
for which they fought
become instruments of your peace
in our homes, workplaces and world.
We ask this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
