Farming Futures
On Thursday, 15 May, senior agriculture students attend the Farming Futures Schools Program at UNE. This event aimed to engage them with opportunities in agriculture, farming, and agribusiness, and was run by current UNE students who sought to provide insights on the topics they wished they had exposure to during their secondary education.
Our students attended 4 sessions:Agronomy: Lyndon from Nutrien talked through how to become an agronomist and why it is an important and growing industry.
Animal Production: Alison Colvin walked students through animal research at UNE. Students had the opportunity to use VR to practice low stress cattle handling.
Agribusiness: Holly from AMPC showed students the careers available within the red meat industry. Students were able to use the careers portal to find potential future jobs.
Agricultural Technology: Alex from Optiweigh talked students through developments in technology including communications and weight tracking and gave us an up close look at one of their in paddock weigh stations.
A massive thank you to UNE, Nutrien and OptiWeigh for this amazing opportunity. Students learned a lot and had a great day!
