A Story of Resilience: Rob Hunter Shares His Journey with our Year 11 Students
As part of our recent Year 11 Wellbeing Day, we had the privilege of welcoming author and educator Rob Hunter, who shared his powerful story of resilience with our Year 11 students.
Rob’s story is both captivating and confronting. On just his ninth day of teaching, he and his nine students at the remote Wooreen State School in South Gippsland were taken hostage at gunpoint by Edwin John Eastwood, in what became known as the Wooreen School kidnapping of 1977.
In his presentation, titled Health After Hurt, Rob recounted the shocking events of that day and the lasting impact they had on all involved. His seminar offered students a deeply personal and moving insight into the trauma, bravery, and healing that can emerge from unimaginable adversity.
It was a unique and unforgettable experience for our Year 11 cohort, delivering a powerful message about resilience, courage, recovery, and the importance of gratitude.
We sincerely thank Rob for generously sharing his story. Students might like to explore his book—a copy of which he kindly donated to the school—now available in our library.
