70th Anniversary

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating Belmont High School’s 70th anniversary—a truly special milestone that brought together past and present members of our school community.

Among the highlights was welcoming back six of our 1955 foundation students, who returned to tour the school and reflect on just how far we've come. It was a learning experience for me to see the pride they felt as they walked the corridors once again and shared memories.

Equally special were the interactions between our current students and former students. One particularly memorable moment was a cheeky cuddle between a grandmother and her grandson in his classroom—a moment that perfectly captured the sense of connection that defines Belmont High.

Throughout the celebrations, we heard story after story of teachers who left a legacy—none more so than Freddie Francis, whose pioneering work in the school’s music program laid the cultural foundations that still resonate today. From orchestras and ensembles to whole-school performances, his influence remains deeply woven into the fabric of our school culture.

Our 70th anniversary was not only a celebration of the past but a reminder of the strength of our community and the shared commitment to shaping bright futures. Thank you to everyone who helped bring the event to life, and to those who joined us in honouring this incredible milestone.

Monday 9 June – King’s Birthday Public Holiday
Tuesday 17 June – GAT (General Achievement Test – all students enrolled in a Unit 3&4 subject)
Friday 27 June – Whole school Assessment and report writing Day (No classes)
Monday 30 June – Wednesday 2 July – Year 9 Camp
Friday 4 July – Last Day of Term 2 (Early dismissal – 2:30pm)

Final Countdown to Matilda Jnr!

With less than a week to go, excitement is truly building as we put the final touches on our 2025 school production, Matilda Jnr. Opening night is fast approaching—Thursday, May 22nd—and with three evening performances scheduled, it promises to be one of the highlights of the term.

Our students and staff have poured countless hours into rehearsals, even giving up time over the school holidays and weekends to ensure the show is one to remember. The commitment, creativity, and collaboration on display have been nothing short of inspiring, and we can’t wait to see it all come to life on stage.

This production is a shining example of the rich opportunities available to students beyond the classroom, and we look forward to celebrating their incredible efforts with the wider school community.

Year 9 Morrisby Interviews – Supporting Future Pathways

As part of our commitment to helping students explore their strengths and consider future possibilities, our Year 9 students will soon participate in their individual Morrisby interviews. These interviews follow the completion of the Morrisby careers assessment earlier this term, providing students with personalised insights into their interests, aptitudes, and potential career pathways.

The one-on-one interviews, conducted by qualified career practitioners, will take place over next week and give each student the opportunity to reflect on their results, ask questions, and begin to consider their future educational and vocational goals.

We see this as a valuable step in our school’s broader approach to careers education and supporting students to make informed choices. We encourage families to talk with their child about the process and the ideas that come from these conversations.

Congratulations to Our SSV National Representatives!

We are thrilled to congratulate two outstanding Belmont High School students who have been selected to represent School Sport Victoria (SSV) at the upcoming School Sport Australia Championships in Queensland later this July.

Luke Cuneen (9P) – selected for the 15 Years and Under Boys Netball team
Minami Tan (12E) – selected for the 18 Years and Under Tennis team

This is an incredible achievement and a reflection of their hard work, dedication, and sporting excellence. Representing Victoria on the national stage is no small feat, and we are so proud to have Luke and Minami showcasing their talents and representing our school with pride.

We wish both students all the best as they prepare for competition and look forward to following their success in Queensland.
