Grade 3-6:

Mr Noordhoff's Grade 3/4A Class:
Reading:
The Grade 3/4A class have begun studying "Charlotte's Web" which is written by E. B. White. This book is the mentor text for Mr Noordhoff's classroom this term and the students have already enjoyed reading the first few chapters of this book.
Writing:
The 3/4A class have continued with their study of Persuasive Writing and have been able to learn all about how to use Persuasive Writing Devices.
Maths:
Several Addition and Subtraction maths activities have been happening in Mr Noordhoff's class during these first few weeks of term and it has been so great to see the students working collaboratively together.
Mr Williamson's Grade 4/5A Class:
Reading:
The Grade 4/5A class have begun studying "RUNT" which is written by Craig Silvey. This book is the mentor text for Mr Williamson's classroom this term and the Grade 4 and Grade 5 students have already been enjoying learning all about the characters and themes in this book.
Writing:
The Grade 4/5A class have been learning all about both Persuasive Writing and Information Reports/Procedural Recounts. Students have been able to include themselves in various amounts of activities learning about "How to play kickball", "How to make ANZAC biscuits", "How to cook Salmon for dinner", and "How to make the perfect cheese toastie."
Maths:
Mr Williamson's classroom full of students have been including themselves in various types of mathematical activities during the first few weeks of term. The students have been learning all about the topic "Addition and Subtraction" and have been having so much fun during the process.
Mr Elliott's Grade 5/6A Class:
Reading:
The Grade 5/6A class have begun studying "Black Cockatoo" which is written by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler. This book is the mentor text for Mr Elliott's classroom this term and the feedback so far from this book has been very positive.
Writing:
The 5/6A class have been working on a Character Analysis of the characters in their mentor text "Black Cockatoo." Students have had great discussions with their peers about this book and the analysis of each character.
Maths:
Mr Elliott's class have been learning all about Fractions during the first few weeks of term 2 this year and they have been really enjoying themselves. It has been great to see the students get involved in the different types of activities and tasks that are being taken place.
Inquisitive Minds:
Inquisitive Minds has taken a Science focus during Term 2 this year at Waverley Meadows Primary School. The Grade 3/4's have been learning all about "Magnets" and the Grade 5/6's have been learning all about "Electricity."
In the 3/4 Classroom our task in Week 2 was to make some Magnet Mazes. Student's in pairs made 2 mazes, one on cardboard and the second using icy pole sticks, playdough and a board. Once the maze was complete students had to navigate a paperclip through the maze using a magnet on the underside to guide the paperclip! This was a lot of fun!
