Principal's Report
I hope everyone has been enjoying this beautiful weather lately. What a wonderful start to Term 2 we have had at Box Hill North Primary School and Kindergarten.
This weekend, I wish all the mothers a very happy Mother's Day. I hope you all get very spoilt and taken care of with breakfast in bed, chores taken care of, flowers, gifts and lots and lots of cuddles!
Thank you to all our wonderful Parent Helpers, who have volunteered their time in so many ways over the past few weeks. We are so lucky to have so many parents who volunteer their time to fundraise and make events run smoothly at our school.
Thank you to all the parents who helped out with our Election Day Sausage Sizzle (some of whom are pictured below) and to all the parents who set up Mother's Day Stall and Breakfast, many of whom were mothers themselves!
A friendly reminder to please use our Kiss and Drop zone on Elizabeth St safely and responsibly to ensure the safety of all our students, families, and staff.
To keep traffic flowing smoothly and our children safe:
Your cooperation helps us keep all children safe and ensures the system works effectively for everyone. Thank you for your support!
On Tuesday I had the privilege of working with 1/2A during their Phonics lesson. After revising the other digraphs the class had focussed on previously, today we were learning about the ‘ar’ digraph, which features in words such as carpet, farm and (funnily enough) Harper!
It was so impressive to see how confident our 1/2 students are in their Phonics lessons. As a school, we have been teaching Phonics as a part of Reading education for years. This year, one of our Annual Implementation Plan goals is to develop our teaching of Reading in line with evidence-based best practice. It’s great to see our practice aligning with the research when it comes to the teaching of Phonics as one of the ‘Big 6’ in the Reading curriculum.
The Victorian Government is delivering the School Saving Bonus (SSB) – a one-off support of $400 for eligible government school students from Prep to Year 12 in 2025.
The SSB can be used for uniforms and textbooks until Monday 30 June 2025.
Any funds remaining after 30 June 2025, including online voucher amounts that have not been redeemed, will become a credit to use on school activities. However, the credit will not be available on your family account at our school until late July. To use any remaining SSB funds to cover the cost of school activities in July, please refer to the SSB online system and allocate the funds to school activities before 30 June 2025. To learn more about the SSB online system, download the step-by-step System guide for parents and carers (DOCX, 945KB) or watch this School Saving Bonus video. System guide translations are also available in 14 languages.
The Department of Education’s SSB contact centre will remain available until 30 June 2025. The contact centre can be reached by:
· completing the School Saving Bonus enquiry form
· calling 1800 338 663, between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays
After this date, please contact our administration team for any SSB related questions.
