PE & Sports Update

Swimming Lessons
It’s always a bit of a crazy time when there are swimming lessons on, but to start the term with lessons has raised the challenge even more. The response from the kids has been very positive as they seem to be loving their swimming lessons and the amount of lost clothing is now down below triple figures?? (ha ha).
The Foundation to Level 2 students have managed to handle the bus rides and transitions well to Glen Waverley Swimworld and the Level 4 & 6 students haven’t got too wet on their walks over to Caulfield.
Thank you to all the parent helpers for your assistance and involvement, it is such a valuable resource and skill and an important part of the curriculum.
Senior House Athletics
Under a cloudy sky the Senior House Athletics (Level 4-6) took place on Tuesday with students participating in a range of events including shotput, discus, long jump, triple jump, 100m sprints, hurdles and relays (shuttle & circular). Optional events included 800m and 200m as well and as always the House Chants were a massive highlight. Over the next week or so we will be having a special Level 4-6 assembly to announce the winners of each event once we finalise all results but overall it was another closely fought battle for the champion house shield.
District Athletics is not until later in term 3, so Mr Zach and Mr Jenkins will finalise the District team over the coming weeks.
Final results:
1st: Fraser (Burrunan)
2nd: Freeman (Narrang)
3rd: Bradman Gurrng Gurrng)
4th Perkins (Oonah)
Running/Fitness Club
After delaying the start of running club for Term 2 due to how busy we have all been, Running Club will start again next Wed 7 May at 8:30am in the parklands. (Students can begin arriving from 8:25am but parents must remain with their child if no teachers are there). If the weather is dodgy and we are not in the park, then we will use the gym as our alternative site.
Term Update
As usual there are lots of different sporting activities lined up over the coming term. Education week is in week 5 and one of the highlights is the Junior Cross Country and Teacher versus student challenges. The Level 5 & 6’s have a Wheelchair basketball incursion in a few weeks time whilst the Level 1&2 students will finish the term with 4 weeks of Gymnastics lessons which are always a favourite. Early in Term 3 is Junior Hoop Time (level 3&4) and Downball championships( Level 3,4,5,6), so preparation and school comps will be happening throughout term 2.
As always it’s good to see the Blues up and about again!
