Curriculum Matters

Foundation

The swimming program has been invaluable in building student independence, confidence and organisational skills.

We were so proud of our Foundation students for demonstrating excellent water safety skills, perseverance and fearlessness when jumping in the deep end!

A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, who without you the program would not run - Lynn, Simone, Goldi, Ebru, Elina, Ali, Chantelle, Kasey, Shae, Romo, Elina, Ella, Amy, May, Michelle, Martin, Hanh, Dani, Sofie, Helen, Bennie, Wendy, Rob, Adam, Gareth, Claudia, Alice, Fred and Janine.

Level 1

To start the term, our Level 1 students have loved taking part in the school swimming program!

A definite highlight was Water Safety Day, where they learnt important survival skills—and even got to hop into the pool with their clothes on!

It has been a great program with wonderful teachers and the students did a great job taking responsibility for their belongings and showing the school values throughout the 8 sessions.

Around swimming we have managed to fit in a few maths lessons, with students building their number sense through hands-on games and engaging activities.

We have also got back into our Little Learners Love Literacy routines and are excited to finally have our new take-home readers!

Level 2

Our Level 2 students have been exploring the meaning and importance of ANZAC Day. They have been learning about bravery, sacrifice, and the spirit of the ANZACs. As part of their learning, we read ANZAC Ted — the story of a well-loved teddy bear who brought comfort to soldiers during the war. Students worked together to brainstorm powerful descriptive words to capture ANZAC Ted’s journey and role.

Through this activity, our students developed a deeper understanding of the significance of ANZAC Day and why it is important to remember those who served.

Level 3

This week, our Level 3 students honoured Anzac Day with some fun and meaningful activities. We learned about the importance of this special day and showed our respect in creative ways.

Students got their hands messy making beautiful Anzac wreaths using handprints.

These handprints contributed to a cohort wreath that we got to present at our Anzac Day ceremony.

We also enjoyed baking delicious Anzac cookies, which smelled amazing!

Level 4

Over the past fortnight, our Level 4 students have been learning about resilience during our social and emotional learning lessons. We’ve explored what it means to be resilient and how we can show it in our everyday lives like staying calm when things don’t go our way or bouncing back after making a mistake.

In maths, we’ve been working hard on equivalent fractions, using number lines, visuals and hands-on activities to build a deep understanding. Students are developing confidence in recognising and creating equivalent fractions and are beginning to explain their thinking using mathematical language.

Level 5

The students in Level 5 have seamlessly settled back into school for Term 2.

They were all excited to see each other and to share all the wonderful things they got up to on the school holidays.

New school monitor roles were appointed and students are conscientiously attending to their responsibilities each day.

In Mathematics, the students have been looking into Measurement and in particular length. They have brainstormed different items that could be measured using mm, cm, m & km.

The students have enjoyed traversing the school grounds with measuring tapes and trundle wheels and measuring various objects such as playground slides, the basketball court, oval, friendship seat and the monkey bars. They also challenged themselves with converting between measurements.

In Writing, students have worked on editing and punctuation with a focus on spelling, capital letters, full stops and apostrophes of possession.

In Inquiry, the students have started to identify what they know about the solar system and what they want to know about the solar system this term. They are excited to explore our new topic.

All the Level 5 students had a wonderful time at camp and 5W will look forward to sharing all of the adventures the students got up to at the school assembly in week 4.

Level 6

Student Leaders Attend ANZAC Ceremony at the 1000 Steps

Last Wednesday, our 32 Level 6 student leaders proudly represented our school at the ANZAC Day Ceremony held at the 1000 Steps Kokoda Memorial Trail.

Joined by students from other schools, our leaders paid their respects to the brave men and women who have served our country.

In a special tribute, our students created a beautiful wreath using natural materials found around our school grounds, symbolising growth, resilience, and remembrance. The wreath was laid during the ceremony as a mark of our school’s gratitude and reflection.

Following the service, the students took on the challenge of walking the 1000 steps together. Along the way, they demonstrated outstanding teamwork, supporting and encouraging one another through every step.

It was a wonderful display of leadership, determination, and camaraderie, qualities that reflect the spirit of Kokoda.

We are incredibly proud of the way our student leaders represented our school and honoured the significance of the day.
