Forest School

This term, we are getting hands-on with nature, exploring how we can use natural materials in different ways. Students are discovering that each material has its own unique properties, which can influence how we work with it and what we use it for. Our learning connects with the incredible knowledge of First Nations peoples, who have sustainably used and conserved natural resources for thousands of years: Creating food, medicine, shelter, and tools, all while caring for the environment.
Students have been practising the art of making cordage (crafting string or rope) using natural materials like grasses and reeds. We talked about how fine cordage can be used for delicate tasks like fishing nets and sewing, while thicker ropes are perfect for building and binding.
It’s been wonderful to see students honing their fine motor skills while mastering this essential bushcraft skill. We can’t wait to see what other clever creations they come up with as we continue to explore the magic of natural materials!
Winter Solstice Preparations
We are also getting ready for a special project: Making lanterns for our Winter Solstice night! If you have any clean, empty 2L milk bottles or 1.25L soft drink bottles at home, we would love your donations. Students can bring their bottles with them when they come to Forest School on either Monday or Tuesday.
Thank you so much for your support. We can't wait to light up the night with our creations!
Cheers,
