Leadership at BBPS
Levi and Nick
Well done to Lucy W and Flynn, Grade 6, whose speeches featured this week in Federal Parliament as successful applicants of the Raise Our Voice Campaign -
Check them out! - Lucy's speech here and Flynn's speech here.
This term Grade 6 are in the process of completing their leadership program with a community action project – What are you passionate about? And how can you connect and have an impact on our wider community?
See some updates from some busy teams below:
Youth Crime, Levi and Nick
Levi and Nick interviewed the coordinators of Neighbourhood Watch, Philip Lovel (President) and Geoff Bransbury (Vice-President), to find out more about how the youth of today can help keep our community safe.
Nick: Levi and I partnered with Neighbourhood Watch to help spread the word about youth crime. We interviewed the Neighbourhood Watch president and vice president about how the youth can help the community to make our area a better place. I learned that anyone can help by reading the newsletter that they make and we are going to help put the newsletter in people’s letterboxes.
Everleigh, Sophie and Tess will be running an art club for interested residents at The Crescent, as their passion is about supporting the elderly in our community.
For our community project, are doing an art session with the elderly. This will take place at the Crescent Retirement Village Brighton. To organise this we had to make a phone call to the manager, Sandra. Before we called her we had to create an elevator pitch. An elevator pitch is a short summary and a way to introduce yourself in a quick way. After that we went to Mrs. Ancrum’s office, we sat down, talked to her and told her what we wanted to offer the residents. Sandra has agreed and we have organised to meet on the 7 of November for our Art Session next week.
Donate to the homeless
Will, Lacey, David and Myles need your help! With a passion for helping the homeless, they are doing an item drive.

Year 5s have loved connecting with the students from St Peter’s Kindergarten, as part of our community engagement program, that they have extended sessions into Term 4!
Grade 5’s are excited to have an opportunity to go to St Peter’s Kinder and read them a story. We visit in small groups on a Friday and after we read a story we help the kinder kids to make a craft about the book we read.

Duke, 5BM
At school, we prepared the materials that the kinder kids needed for the craft activity. We walked to the St Peter’s kinder and when we read the story Don’t call me bear. We took turns reading a page concentrating on expression to make the book feel alive. We helped in small groups to cut, stick and colour in their koala headbands. I learnt that the kinder kids were very smart, and how to help them make their art but not do the work for them.
Elena, 5BM
Our group each read a page of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and we gave the kindergarteners some insights of the book. We partnered up with some kinder kids and then we helped them to make their paper chain caterpillar, showing them what to do. I liked helping the kids at kinder and teaching them how to do things. I helped one to write his name up the right way.
