Hello Foundation Families!
This week we continued to explore the past and the present through various texts about transport and bikes and even had Jane from the office come and tell us about what she used to do at school. The students thought it was fascinating that they used to have milk delivered to school that wasn't refrigerated and had to drink it warm, yuck!
In maths we continued to build fluency with 2 digit numbers. We organised the place value of different numbers into tens and ones, even swapped digits around to make a different number. An example being the numbers 73 to 37. Students then had to explain how 73 has 7 tens and 3 ones but 37 has 3 tens and 7 ones.
On Thursday we had Mrs Sargood join us and take us through what life was like 155 years ago. She told us about her life with her family, how she used to run her school and even got to use some ink and pens. Students had to walk and sit straight as well as learning about how they didn't smile in photos as they were seen as portraits. Mrs Sargood was such an amazing and engaging way to begin our Guided Inquiry unit for this term and we look forward to exploring the olden days further.
Some things FT enjoyed the most were:
Dawn: I liked how the girls always got to go first
Alannah: I liked drawing with the ink and her mansion
Sienna: I liked when she showed us her family and the ink
Aroha, Zeke, Jacob and Tom: I liked writing with the ink
Olivia: I liked seeing the kids old writing books
Kind Regards,
Tegan, Emma and Ash
