From the Principal

St Justin’s Primary School acknowledges the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia's First People and Traditional Custodians of the land and waterways on which our school stands.

We pay our respects to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation, and their elders past and present, and emerging as we continue to proudly live and learn on their land.

October - Month Of The Rosary

Gallery Image

During the month of October we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

When we pray the Rosary, we can reflect on the main events of Jesus’ life. We can try to understand what message each event might have for usand how they can help us live better lives. When we think about Jesus’ life through praying the Rosary, we can be grateful for Jesus and all that he has taught us.

The Rosary is a Catholic form of prayer using beads. When we pray the Rosary you say the Our Father and the Hail Mary, several times while thinking about important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary.

Prayer:

Generous God,

you gave us your Son, Jesus, to show us how to live.

Through the gift of the Rosary, we have a way to reflect on the messages he gave us.

May we learn from Jesus’ life how to be

compassionate, loving and caring peoplewho try to bring hope to others.

We make this prayer in the name of Jesus.

Amen.

Welcome Prep 2026

Today we welcomed our 2026 Prep students for their first transition session. There were obviously very mixed emotions - some very nervous, others anxious whilst others walked in like they owned the place. Whatever the feeling, that's okay and the staff handled all emotions like the true professionals they are, making decisions with their head and their heart. By all reports, many students reported that it was "amazing" and they are very much looking forward to their second transition session next week.

Parent's were welcomed to hear Mrs Carley McGuaran, Psychologist and parent, speak to them about what to keep in mind when your child starts school: "How to Thrive, not just survive!"

Prep 2026 students will be onsite again next Thursday, 30th October from 9.15-10.15am. Again we will meet in the Undercover area. Children will go with their 2026 teacher and in their 2026 classroom on Friday 5th December.

Follow up Transition sessions:

  • Thursday 30th October: Prep Transition 2 (9:15am – 10:15am)

  • Thursday 20th November: Prep Transition Session 3 (9:15am – 10:15am)

  • Thursday 20th November: Parent Information Session - Literacy and Numeracy (PAC)

  • Friday 5th December: Prep Orientation (9:15am – 12:00pm)

A huge congratulations to Sienna Z (Year 6) and Jackson D (Year 4) who competed in the Regional Athletics Championships:

  • Jackson D – 10th place in 1500m

These students were invited to compete after finishing at the top of their respective events at the Division Athletics. Both students gave their very best against some outstanding athletes from across the Region.

Volunteer Interview bookings

Our Annual Fair on the Hill is fast approaching (Saturday 8th November 11:00am - 4:00pm) and there has been an amazing amount of planning going on.

Once again, we are inviting families to be involved and calling for volunteers to help, please refer to the Fair notices that went home toward the end of last term. So far there is an amazing vibe, but as we know, a vibe won't get the job done - it's the community working together.

Transition to Summer Uniform

In case you haven't noticed, the weather in Melbourne can change very quickly. As we have seen this week, we had beautiful weather on the weekend only to have cold, wet, windy weather during the week. During these extreme weather conditions, students may wear the uniform that suits the environment, but we do ask that it please be the school uniform and not a combination of casual clothes worn under summer uniform. The correct school uniform should always be worn to school, unless directed elsewise for special events.

Time to get ‘Sun Smart’

A reminder that St Justin’s is a 'Sun Smart School' and as a result, throughout October to the end of April, students are required to wear a sun protective school hat that protects the face, neck and ears. Please make sure that your child’s hat is clean, in good condition and clearly labelled. New hats can be purchased from Academy Uniforms. Students will also be encouraged to wear broad-spectrum water resistant sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and to be responsible for its reapplication throughout the day. Students are welcome to bring their own sunscreen (not to share) or apply in the mornings before coming to school. As always, students are also encouraged to have a drink bottle.
