Carrying on from our success at the GWR athletics, 15 students went on to the SSV Athletics Championships, where our athletes delivered exceptional performances, securing an impressive 9th place overall out of 240 competing schools across Victoria.
The standout performance came from Gus Ewing, who shattered the state discus record by an incredible 4 metres while claiming first place. Gus also earned second place in shot put, demonstrating his dominance in throws events.
Kareem Mukhtar starred on the track, coming 1st in the 200m, 2nd in the 100m by 0.07sec, and 3rd in triple jump – a remarkable performance. Jessica Mibus showed tremendous consistency with three 4th place finishes in long jump, triple jump, and discus.
Other notable results included Mia Hetherington (4th in 200m, 7th in 100m), Harry McShane (7th in 1500m), Jobe Dunn (7th in hurdles), and Grace Cleaver (5th in hurdles).

GWR Hockey - Alison Read
On Thursday, 16th October 16 students (very full side) made their way to Warrnambool to play Greater Western Region Hockey against Mt Clear College and Warrnambool College, in warm and very un-hockey like conditions.
First game we had the bye so were able to scope the opposition and check out the players we needed to shut down when they were on the attack.

Our first opposition was Mt Clear coming straight off a loss 3-6 to Warrnambool College. We opened strongly with quick movement up the pitch, we attacked the ball strongly but failed to find our players' sticks cleanly. As we settled into the game we found the important links between players, Angus Tindall found the back of the net with our first goal, we were on the board. With 5 on the bench, we rotated regularly, and the instructions were to run hard while on the pitch. Oscar Smith provided our second scoring opportunity with an individual carry into the D to shoot accurately. Our defensive line was tight and ran hard to prevent shots or drawing the errors off short corners preventing Mt Clear from scoring. At the final whistle we were winners 3-0.
Warrnambool having the break in warm weather obviously played into their hands with them scoring early. We knew we had to win to progress, so the pressure mounted, and mistakes started to creep into the game. We failed to keep our structure wide, most of the play concentrated down the middle of the pitch and we started to panic as Warrnambool again scored. After half time we recomposed ourselves and started to share the ball and scored a nice goal off a short corner with a drag flick from Oscar. Unfortunately, the weather turned with the game being suspended due to lightening, with 6 minutes to play. We had the option to wait 30 minutes but we had to make our way back to school.
Despite the loss, Monivae showed talent and sportsmanship and should be proud of their efforts on the day. We have a very talented hockey community and look forward to multiple teams participating next year.
South West Middle Years Clay Target
Our small but determined team of Year 7-10 students faced challenging conditions at the recent South West Middle Years Clay Target Competition in Warrnambool, with strong winds testing even the most experienced shooters throughout the day.

Despite the tough weather, our students demonstrated resilience and were determined to do their best. Every team member gave their absolute best, maintaining focus and composure despite the difficult circumstances that affected scores across all competing schools.
Special mention goes to Jake Malseed and Justin Coates, who were most improved shooters for their progress at the competition. While our small team size presented challenges, the effort and positive attitude displayed by all participants made us incredibly proud.
