Australian Maths Competition

This year we had 56 students, participate in the Australian Maths Competition. Spanning topics from basic arithmetic to advanced algebra, geometry, statistics and probability, the competition is crafted each year by leading educators and academics.

It was amazing to see student anticipation to showcase their mathematical skills and problem-solving capabilities and students should be proud of their efforts.

Our results were as follows:

  • High distinction - Is awarded to people who scored in the top 3% of their year and region. It was wonderful to see that 2 students achieved this award.
  • Distinction - Is awarded to people who scored in the top 20% of their year and region. We had a total of 7 students achieve a distinction award.
  • Credit - Is awarded to people who scored in the top 55% of their year and region. We had a total of 24 students achieve a credit award.
  • Proficiency- Is awarded to people who did not achieve a credit or higher, nevertheless received a satisfactory score of over 32. We had a total of 21 students achieve a proficiency award.
  • Participation - Is awarded to people who participated but did not score proficient or above. We had 2 students achieve this award.

We are awaiting the delivery of the certificates to present as our Whole School Assembly. We will advise students and families of when the presentations will be taking place in the newsletter in the coming weeks.

Foundation 2026 Transition Session

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming our 2026 Foundation students for their very first transition session — and what a fantastic morning it was! It was lovely to see so many new faces walking through the gates, as well as younger siblings of our current students who already feel right at home.

The children enjoyed a shared reading of Where is the Green Sheep?, and then got creative by decorating their very own sheep to take home. The room was buzzing with colour, imagination, and lots of proud smiles — a great first taste of what learning looks like in our Foundation classrooms.

Starting school is a big milestone, and we are so proud of how confidently our newest learners stepped into this new experience. We are looking forward to seeing them again soon and continuing to build those early connections with families.

Victorian Government Changes to Digital Device Use

From 2027, the Victorian Government is introducing changes to the use of digital devices for students from Prep to Grade 6.

Under the new guidelines, schools:

· will no longer invite families to purchase or bring their own digital devices to use at school for Prep to Grade 6

· will follow new recommended digital device times, including minimal device time for Prep to Grade 2; and a maximum of 90 minutes per day for grades 3 to 6.

These changes are intended to support families by reducing cost-of-living pressures. They will also support students by reducing screen-time which can reduce the risk of eye strain, sedentary behaviour, and reduced peer interaction. These reforms complement Victoria’s nation-leading mobile phone restrictions, ensuring an integrated approach to addressing digital distraction and the inappropriate use of technology.

What this means for our school

As you know, we already provide school-owned digital devices for student learning, so there is no impact on our school’s BYOD programs.

Students with disability who use a digital device as a reasonable adjustment are exempt from these changes.

These changes are intended to support families with cost-of-living pressures and reduce student screen time.

You can read more about the changes on the department’s website: Digital Learning: Policy

Kind regards,
