Acting Principal's Report

Deanne Scott

Hello DPW Community,

I’m excited to step into the role of Acting Principal at DPW.It’s an incredible privilege to lead a school community that values curiosity, kindness, and lifelong learning. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, engaged families, and wonderful students, in this role.

Assembly

A reminder that we will be having assembly every two weeks, beginning this week. As always you are welcome to join us for assembly at 2:45pm but please wait until the end of the day to take your children home.

SWPBS

On Tuesday, Ms Komp, Ms Ciccone and I attended a day of professional learning to evaluate our stage of implementation of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework. We attended with other schools also implementing this framework, enabling a sharing of ideas, challenges and celebrations.

During the day we were able to identify our strengths and areas for future work, finishing with an action plan ready for 2026. We were also introduced to the new tool for evaluating this framework, that is expected to be in use within the next year or two. This was valuable information as the new tool really expanded on current evaluation markers and went deeper into embedding each element.

Supporting Every Child and Every Family

At Deer Park West Primary School, we believe every student has the right to feel safe, supported and inspired to reach their full potential. We care deeply about your child’s learning, wellbeing and future, and we value the partnership we share with families in achieving the very best outcomes for every student.

We know that students thrive when schools and families work together with trust and open communication.

If you ever have questions, concerns or ideas about your child’s education, we encourage you to reach out to us. Talking things through early often helps us to respond quickly and effectively which can mean better outcomes for our students.

What if you have a concern?

Start with us. Contact your child’s teacher or the school office to arrange a conversation. We welcome feedback and see it as an opportunity to improve and better meet the needs of our students.

If you’re not comfortable speaking directly with the school, or you feel your concern hasn’t been fully resolved, there are clear steps to follow.

All Victorian government schools have a Complaints Policy that explains how issues can be raised and escalated, if needed. You'll find our complaints policy here https://www.dpwps.vic.edu.au/policies .  Should you feel your concern hasn’t been resolved after speaking with the school, the Department of Education's Regional Office can assist families in working through concerns.

Deer Park West Primary School is committed to listening respectfully, acting fairly and working together in the best interests of your child. Whether it’s celebrating achievements, solving problems or planning for future learning, we are committed to being a school community where every voice is valued.

Your feedback matters—and your child matters most. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
