Dear Families, Students and Community Members,

As the Spring weather tries to make its mind up, we have been busy getting our Year 12 cohort ready for their final weeks in school, celebrating our Mordialloc College artists, being amazed at the work of our Year 12 VCE-VM students, and getting ready for our 2026 timetable to begin in HeadStart.

Farewell to the Class of 2025

This week has been a mix of emotions as we prepared for our Year 12 Graduation and Leaver’s Assembly, saying goodbyes to a great cohort of students is always poignant.

I really must commend all of the Year 12 students this week: they have been mature, they have spent time making great memories with their friends, peers, and teachers, and they have shown themselves to be a wonderful group of young adults. Year 12, we are so proud of you!

On 21st October, we came together as a school community to celebrate our Year 12 students. It was wonderful to be able to congratulate those Year 12 students who worked to the best of their ability in either the VCE University Pathway or VCE Vocational Major pathway, and who are now preparing for the next step in their journey.

An important component of Year 12 is developing the skills required to navigate the specific challenges that arise in the final year of school, it requires resilience, and the courage to ask for help when it is needed. This is where our amazing staff have always been available to support our students, and we are so proud to say that no matter what challenges have been presented to them, Year 12 2025 have repeatedly demonstrated that when they put their mind to it, they can achieve amazing things.

The Graduation Day, and all recent Year 12 activities ran as smoothly as they did because of the amazing work of Bella Kennedy (Year 12 YLC) and Mick Haber (VM Coordinator); a big thank you to them both for giving our Year 12s the beautiful send off that they all deserved.

On behalf of the whole Mordialloc College Community, I would like to wish every success to our Year 12 students, it has been a pleasure to have been a part of your success story.

Year 12, my challenge to you all: make this world a better place, I know that you can do it.

A big thank you to Mick Haber (VM Coordinator) and Moira Phi (Careers Practitioner) for supporting the application process. Also a big thank you to Kodilee Strahan (VM LAL), Julie Pretty, Kelly Roberts, Megan Dodds, Steph Van Twuiver, and Moira Philps for attending on the night and representing our wonderful Mordialloc College community. It really is amazing that our students have been ‘officially’ recognised for their efforts, their commitment, and their dedication across their VM-VCE studies.

Art Show 2025

On the same evening as the above VCE-VM event, we also had our annual Mordialloc College Art Show.

This year we secured a $12.6 million ArtsTech build and, believing that this was going to start soon, we organised our slim lined 2025 Art Show to be held in The Gallery, envisaging the EZ would be a demolition site! When we found out that this stage of the building works had been postponed, we knew that the show must go on, and how important it was to bring you all in to celebrate our students, and their great work.

This event showcased what we do best: provide a myriad of opportunities to support and celebrate the hard work of our students. The Art Show would not have been as successful as it was without the hard work of the ArtsTech team who worked hard to showcase the space to honour our students’ hard work. On the evening, our music staff and students performed ensembles throughout the event, it really was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. A huge thanks to all of our ArtsTech team; yet again they have highlighted why Arts provision is so important to the community.

New ArtsTech Build - Update

We have now had our Project Managers appointed to the Arts Tech Build Project: Debtech Pty Ltd; with recent experience in managing the builds of other schools in Victoria, we really hope that this means we can start to share some firm time-lines around the build itself.

France Trip 2025

A massive thank you to Cynthia Leung & Bournik Kabengele who in the last week of Term 3 and into the Term 3 holiday, accompanied a group of our intrepid French students on a once in a lifetime trip to France. Trips like this are simply not possible without a huge amount of planning, time and effort from the staff who are involved, and we would like to say a huge merci beaucoup to Cynthia and Bournik for going above and beyond for the students.

My conversations with the students were all focused around food (a croissant every day was amazing!!) but for more, please see the below article and photographs.

Over the Term 3 break, students embarked on an unforgettable two-week tour of France and Belgium. The journey began in the magnificent city of Paris, where students took in some of the world’s most iconic landmarks. Highlights included visiting the Eiffel Tower, where the group watched its dazzling lights sparkle against the night sky, walking along the Seine, and exploring the many nearby shops.

From Paris, the group travelled to the Loire Valley, renowned for its breathtaking châteaux. Students explored grand castles surrounded by lush gardens, gaining insight into France’s rich history and architecture. The next stage of the trip took them to Rouen, where students stayed with French host families and attended a local French language school. This immersive experience gave everyone the chance to practise their French in authentic contexts and to experience French family life firsthand.

Students also took a meaningful excursion to Belgium, where they visited the Ypres World War I memorial to pay their respects and deepen their understanding of European history. Back in France, the group enjoyed the charm of the Normandy coast, visiting picturesque seaside towns such as Honfleur, Trouville, and Deauville, as well as the D-Day landing beaches, where they reflected on the events that shaped modern Europe.

One of the most memorable highlights of the trip was visiting Mont Saint-Michel, a spectacular island abbey rising dramatically from the sea. The tour concluded back in Paris, where students enjoyed their final evening beneath the shimmering lights of the Eiffel Tower.

Throughout the trip, students demonstrated curiosity, resilience, and enthusiasm as they immersed themselves in French culture, language, and history. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that left lasting memories and friendships, as well as a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of France.
