Principal Team Update

Hi BPS families,
Building works have now commenced around our school grounds, with significant upgrades planned over the coming months. One of the major projects is the refurbishment of our girls’ and boys’ toilet blocks. These facilities will undergo internal demolition before being completely refitted. The boys’ toilets will be completed first, followed by the girls’, alongside other improvement works across the school.
During this time, temporary toilet blocks will be installed for student use. We appreciate your support and understanding while these important upgrades take place.
Refurbishment of the school hall will also begin shortly, and additional scaffolding will be visible as this work progresses. From Friday afternoon, 24 October, TeamKids will operate from the SALC while the hall works are underway. Families are asked to enter and exit via Gate 8 on Herbert Street, rather than Gate 1 on Dalgetty Road.
We are thrilled to be improving our school's facilities. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to complete them efficiently and safely.
We hope our Year 3 students returned from their first camp full of fun tales to share, pride in themselves for trying new activities, and excitement for the future camps that lay ahead of them. School camp experiences support our students to develop independence, teamwork, and resilience whilst strengthening friendships and building confidence in new environments. Thank you to our staff who did a wonderful job in organising, leading and running this camp, as well as thank you to the parents/carers who attended and supported the running of the camp.
Last Wednesday evening we, along with our Year 5 teachers, had the pleasure of attending the Bayside Upstanders project launch for 2025. Billilla studio program artist and author Cassy Polimeni led workshops with 130 Year 5 students, coming together from across five Bayside schools involved in the Upstanders program. These students created stories against bullying, culminating in an anthology of stories published in a series of five books (see image below). Their stories are aimed at inspiring fellow students, and our community, to speak up, find their voice, and support each other in the fight against bullying. These books will be available in Bayside and school libraries, and we have also shared our student's brilliant stories on the Topic Spotlight page of this newsletter. Well done to our Year 5 students involved in this project and the launch evening.
We have a group of volunteers busy at work in preparation for our first BPS Colour Fun Run, happening later this term (Friday 21st November). We know a huge number of you have already jumped online and began fundraising - amazing! Please continue to keep an eye on the Parents & Friends page of our Stop Press Newsletters as updates will continue to be shared there. We can't wait for this fun event to take place!
We will be holding an Open Afternoon next Friday 31st October. Parents and carers are very welcome to join their child in their classroom from 3pm. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
Kind regards,
David, Grace, Keli and Ellen
