Swimming Safety
Dear Families,
As we head into summer and the holiday period, children will naturally spend more time around pools, rivers and beaches. This makes water safety especially
important.
According to the latest National Drowning Report, 357 people drowned in Australia last year, with many incidents occurring during summer and in open water environments such as rivers and beaches. Many of these tragedies are preventable.
To support families, we’re sharing two short water safety blogs from Surrey Park Swimming, a local not-for-profit organisation focused on community water safety:
- Safety in Inland Waterways blog
These resources provide practical tips and are great conversation starters to help children recognise risks, understand safety rules and make safer decisions aroundwater. We’ve also included a “Safety over Summer” activity booklet for younger children. Thank you for helping us keep our community safe this summer. We wish all families a happy and safe holiday break.
