October  2025    Harper

Gallery Image

Our Super Hero this week is receiving the award for the school values of RESPONSIBILITY and EXCELLENCE.

Harper consistently demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility by following school rules both in the classroom and out in the yard. She understands that kindness and helping others create a happier, more supportive school environment, and she leads by example every day.

Harper is a wonderful classmate. She encourages others to do their best and is always ready to lend a helping hand when someone needs support. Her caring nature and team spirit make her a joy to learn with.

This Year 1 student is a motivated learner, approaching academic tasks with enthusiasm and focus. Harper listens carefully, asks insightful questions, and embraces feedback to grow her understanding. Her positive attitude and willingness to take on challenges have helped her build confidence and achieve fantastic progress across all areas of the curriculum.

While on an overseas trip at the end of last term, Harper remained committed to her learning. With the support of her family, she completed poetry, maths worksheets, Essential Assessment tasks, handwriting practice, and spelling activities. Her daily diary entries from her trip were full of expression and detail and our class has enjoyed hearing her reflections on the plane ride to Canada and her adventures at Disneyland. It was clear that distance was no barrier to her dedication!

Harper is our outstanding and well-deserving Super Hero for this week!

Congratulations Harper, we hope you've had a great week.

Year  3/4 News

In Term 3 Students continued to deepen their understanding of Indigenous history and culture during our day excursion to the Melbourne Museum. The visit included time in the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, which showcases the living culture of First Peoples of Victoria. Students explored exhibits highlighting traditional knowledge, stories, artefacts, and contemporary voices, giving them a greater appreciation of the depth and diversity of Indigenous history.

Let’s make the most of the beautiful weather ahead by riding, walking, or scootering to school. It’s a fantastic way to kickstart your day with fresh air, fun, and fitness. Plus, it’s great for the planet and a wonderful way to connect with friends and neighbours!

Why not rally your crew, form a walking or riding group, and turn your Fridays into a celebration of community and sustainability?

Let’s roll into the weekend feeling energised and inspired!

See you out there!

Mt Alexander Schools Chess Challenge

On Tuesday the 16th of September our KPS Chess team competed in the local regional chess championships in Castlemaine, attended by 14 schools and over 200 students. It was an exciting day for the twelve students (across grades 3-6) who made the journey and competed on the day. In a thrilling conclusion to the tournament, team KPS were able to clinch 3rd place by half a point. This came as a surprise even to the organisers as this was our first time participating in the tournament and we were able to hold of some strong schools from the Ballarat and Bendigo regions.

This report would be two pages long if I was to go into the many terrific individual performances we had on the day. A huge well done to all 12 KPS students who competed, every student played an important role in grabbing third place. Even more pleasing was our 10/10 sportsmanship displayed on the day. By finishing 3rd we have now qualified for the state championships which are being held in Melbourne next Wednesday the 22nd October.

Well done to Molly, Clancy, Max, Lena, Billy, Henry, Liam, Harlow, Errol, Aarav, Sonny and Charlie

Only 10 Weeks Left in 2025 – We Need a Few More Volunteers!

It’s hard to believe there are just 10 weeks left in the school year! We’ve been so lucky to have amazing volunteers helping in the canteen throughout 2025 – thank you to each and every one of you for your time and support.

We’re now looking for a few extra volunteers to help us finish the year strong:

🥪 Canteen Volunteers – Thursdays or Fridays, 12.00–2.00pm

🍎 Breakfast Club Volunteers – Thursdays or Fridays, 8.30–9.10am

Without volunteer support, we may struggle to run Breakfast Club on some days, so any help is greatly appreciated!

If you’re interested, please let me know.

All volunteers will need a valid Working with Children Check (Volunteer) – it’s free and easy to apply for. You’ll also need to complete a quick OHS induction at the office.

We’d love to see a few new faces join the team soon!

Working Bee

Our final working bee of the year is planned for Sunday October 26 from 10 am.

Our working bees are a fun opportunity to create and maintain our school gardens and outdoor learning and play spaces. Lunch is provided by the P&F to feed the hungry workers. Children are welcome on the understanding that you take full responsibility for their supervision and wellbeing. It’s a great chance for families that are new to the school to mix and mingle with the school community.

The school has a limited number of tools, so please bring along any of your own that you are happy to use. Wheelbarrows, shovels and garden forks, weeding tubs, trowels, secateurs, and the like are all very handy. Don’t forget your gardening gloves and anything else you need to stay safe and comfortable.

See you there!

Carpark Safety

We would like to address some important safety concerns regarding carpark use, and we kindly ask for your cooperation.

Kindergarten Carpark

We have been made aware that some families are using the kindergarten carpark who are not attending the kindergarten. This carpark is reserved exclusively for kindergarten families. If you have both kindergarten and school-aged children and need to park there, please ensure you use the ramp to access the school grounds.

The increased traffic in this area is making it difficult for kindergarten families to find parking and is also creating a safety risk due to the higher volume of foot traffic. Please also note that the gate between the kindergarten and school is now locked — children should not be lifted over the gate under any circumstances.

School Carpark

The school carpark has vehicles moving in and out throughout the day. For safety reasons, we ask that pedestrians do not use the stairs near the flag poles and then walk through the carpark as a shortcut. The designated ramp or steps are to be used when entering or exiting the school.

Thank you for your support in helping keep all members of our school and kindergarten community safe.
