Principal's Message to the School Community

Dear KPS Community,
Celebrate World Teachers’ Day – Friday 31 October 2025!
Australia will come together on Friday 31 October 2025 to celebrate the incredible work of our teachers on World Teachers’ Day. This special day is dedicated to recognising the passion, dedication, and skill that teachers bring every day to educating, inspiring, and supporting our young people.
Teachers play a vital role in shaping the future by nurturing curiosity, building confidence, and encouraging every student to reach their full potential. Whether it’s guiding a student through a tricky math problem, sparking creativity in the classroom, or offering a listening ear, teachers make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families.
Hats off to teachers this World Teachers’ Day!To mark this special occasion, we invite families to join the celebration by sharing a “hats off” selfie with your children. Put on your favourite hat, snap a fun photo, and send it to the school email address, kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au. The school is having a special morning tea on this day for our teachers and we’d like to decorate the staffroom with your photos. A simple thank you can brighten a teacher’s day and remind them how valued they are.
How to join the celebration:
- Take a “hats off” selfie with your kids
- Share your photos by sending it to the school email address, kyneton.ps@education.vic.gov.au by the 29/10.
With your photo include a heartfelt message to say thank you
You can also download free resources like cards, selfie frames, gift tags, and more from the official World Teachers’ Day website: www.worldteachersday.edu.au. These resources make it easy to add a special touch to your appreciation.
This is your chance to join thousands of Australians in saying thank you to the teachers who make a difference every day. Let’s celebrate their hard work, commitment, and the positive impact they have on our children’s lives.
So, hats off to all our amazing teachers this World Teachers’ Day!
Changes to digital device use
From 2027, the Victorian Government is introducing changes to the use of digital devices for students from Prep to Grade 6.
Under the new guidelines, schools:
- will no longer invite families to purchase or bring their own digital devices to use at school for Prep to Grade 6
will follow new recommended digital device times, including minimal device time for Prep to Grade 2; and a maximum of 90 minutes per day for grades 3 to 6.
These changes are intended to support families by reducing cost-of-living pressures. They will also support students by reducing screen-time which can reduce the risk of eye strain, sedentary behaviour, and reduced peer interaction. These reforms complement Victoria’s nation-leading mobile phone restrictions, ensuring an integrated approach to addressing digital distraction and the inappropriate use of technology.
What this means for our school
As you know, we already provide school-owned digital devices for student learning, so there is no impact on our school’s BYOD programs.
Students with disability who use a digital device as a reasonable adjustment are exempt from these changes.
These changes are intended to support families with cost-of-living pressures and reduce student screen time.
You can read more about the changes on the department’s website: Digital Learning: Policy.
Kind regards,
Alistair Rayner
Principal
