Wow! Can you believe it’s already Term 4?

Time has certainly flown by!

To kick off the term, our Grade 6 students have been busy designing and creating their very own mural. It’s bright, vibrant, and captures a truly inspiring message that celebrates their primary school journey. During Week 1, they brought their designs to life working with an extremely talented artist Shannon Lamden and the result is absolutely stunning! Be sure to check it out in the hallway leading to the STEM room, we’re all so proud of their incredible work.

As we head into our final term of the year, there’s lots of excitement in the art room as we prepare for our Big Art Show, opening Thursday, 4th December (Week 9). This will be the first art show I’ve coordinated, and while I’m both excited and a little nervous, I can’t wait to see everything come together. The students have already produced so many wonderful pieces, and it’s going to be a fantastic celebration of their creativity!

Some parents have asked when students will be bringing their artwork home. At the end of the year, students will be creating their own art portfolios, which will include all their work from throughout the year. These will go home after the Art Show. I highly recommend that you go through their portfolios with him and even frame a few they make the BEST gifts too.

Lastly, as we prepare for the show, I’d love some helping hands! On Friday 7th of November (Week 5) and Friday14th of November (Week 6), I will be holding ‘Framing Fridays’ from 2:00pm in the art room to help frame student work. If you’re available, your help would be greatly appreciated.

During Art Show Week, I’ll also be looking for volunteers to assist with set-up on

Monday 1st, Tuesday 2nd, and Wednesday 3rd December.

As we explore the Visual Arts curriculum this term and prepare for our upcoming Art Show, each year level will be focusing on and being assessed in the following areas.

Preps:

Students are encouraged to explore their creativity by experimenting with new materials and techniques, even when they feel challenging or unfamiliar. They are learning that making mistakes is a natural and valuable part of the artistic process, helping them discover new ways to express their ideas. Students are also taking time to observe their own work, reflecting on what they enjoy and what they might like to improve. Through this, they will develop an understanding that persistence, problem-solving, and practice are all important parts of growing as an artist.

Grade 1/2:

Students will continue to explore a wide range of materials and techniques, even when they feel challenging or unfamiliar. They are learning that mistakes can lead to new discoveries and different ways of approaching their work. Through their art, students are expressing their personal ideas, feelings, and experiences in creative and meaningful ways. They are also developing the ability to reflect thoughtfully on their own work, identifying both strengths and areas they would like to improve. By asking questions and using feedback, students are making purposeful choices to refine and enhance their artistic creations.

Grade 3/4:

Grade 3's and 4's will continue to experiment with a variety of materials and techniques to discover new possibilities in their artwork. They are learning to view mistakes as opportunities to refine their ideas and try innovative approaches. Through their art, students are expressing complex thoughts, emotions, and experiences with purpose and creativity. They are also developing an understanding that consistent effort, reflection, and thoughtful practice all contribute to their growth and success as young artists.

Grade 5/6:

This term, students will design artworks that communicate powerful stories and deeper meanings through their creative choices. They are learning to thoughtfully critique their own work, making purposeful improvements to achieve their artistic vision. By incorporating detailed and constructive feedback, students are enhancing the quality and impact of their art. They will focus on completing ambitious and long-term projects, that will demonstrate perseverance and pride in their artistic achievements.
