Physical Education

Welcome to Physical Education Term 4!
Prep-2
This term the Prep - 2 students will be learning modified versions of cricket and basketball while focusing on the following.
- Identifying and describing actions that would constitute fair play
- Demonstrating how to play fairly
- Demonstrating that following rules allows everyone to participate
- Working cooperatively with a partner when practising new skills
- Encouraging and including others in games and physical activities
- Demonstrating turn-taking and sharing equipment when participating in cooperative learning activities and minor games
Cricket helps children develop hand-eye coordination, throwing, catching, and striking skills, while encouraging fair play and focus. Basketball introduces dribbling, passing, and shooting techniques, all of which enhance agility and control. Both sports also promote important social skills such as cooperation, communication, and respect for others.
By exploring these sports, our young learners build physical confidence and a love of movement in a supportive and inclusive environment.
3-6
The grade 3 to 6, students are refining their motor skills and beginning to apply more complex movement patterns in team sports. Through the games of cricket and basketball, students explore not only the physical aspects of sport—such as coordination, speed, and control—but also the strategic elements that come with playing in a team. We will be focusing on the following.
- demonstrating fundamental movement skills in correct sequence to complete a movement task or challenge
- performing warm-up and stretching routines to understand how to prepare the body to be active
- interpreting and applying rules fairly
- using reflective listening and respectful communication when working in small groups on movement tasks or challenges
- demonstrating effective communication skills when dealing with conflicts or disagreements
- proposing and implementing actions and behaviours that promote safe participation
Across both sports, students strengthen their understanding of teamwork, fair play, and resilience in both competitive and cooperative settings.
