Year 9 City Experience

At the end of Term 3, the Year 9s travelled to Melbourne for their City Experience.

The students attended various workshops and tours which gave them the opportunity to hear and see real stories of homelessness first-hand. We also visited the NGV, where they explored the current First Nations installation, and we also had time to stop at St Paul’s Cathedral.

A special moment occurred when we bumped into the Year 3s on their own City Experience, the Year 9s stepped up beautifully, helping them navigate the busy train station with confidence and care.

As always, the students were a delight to take away.

Year 9 Community Service

As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, our Year 9 class has participated in community service every Monday afternoon. From Opal Aged Care Facility, to Hopkins Falls gardening, and rubbish collecting in numerous locations, such as the beach and school grounds, we have been exposed to a broad spectrum of different ways to help the community.

Engaging with different community groups, like the King’s College Kinder students and people at aged care homes, has developed a deeper connection with the community of Warrnambool, which we might otherwise not have experienced. We have enjoyed every moment of community service; it has been especially rewarding to be able to complete the volunteering part of our Duke of Edinburgh award while also spending time with our classmates.

Some of the highlights from the year so far are spending afternoons playing Bingo at aged care homes, watching the boys run down the hill at Hopkins Falls trying not to spill the mulch out of their wheelbarrows, and visiting the Kinder to play games with the kids and watch their concert rehearsal. We have also spent a nice afternoon getting to know our buddies and playing games with them.

Overall, Community Service is an enjoyable part of the King’s College Year 9 program that gives students the opportunity to volunteer at different organisations and contribute to the Warrnambool community.

Year 7 Beach Cleanup

At the end of Term 3, the Year 7 class finished off their unit on Ocean Awareness with a Beach cleanup at Levi's Beach. Although it was a windy day, they managed to find some interesting microplastics and other items, along with a sunbathing seal!

Year 9/10 Food Tech

To culminate and celebrate our Food Tech class at the end of Term 3, we decided to put together an Antipasto dinner. Students worked in teams to deliver some delectable delights from Foccacia to Brie bakes and speciality sauces.
