The Heart Behind Learning: Why AI Will Never Replace Christian Teachers

At King’s College, we are committed to preparing students for a rapidly changing world, a world where artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming part of everyday life. From helping us research ideas more quickly to assisting with creative projects, AI can be an incredible tool. Used wisely, it can support learning, streamline tasks, and open new opportunities for exploration.

However, at King’s we also recognise something vitally important: AI will never replace teachers, especially Christian teachers.

AI can provide information, but it cannot offer wisdom. It can analyse data, but it cannot discern truth from a biblical perspective. It can simulate empathy, but it cannot love. Only a teacher shaped by God’s Spirit can speak to both the mind and the heart of a student, guiding them not only toward knowledge but also toward Christlike character.

Jesus said, ‘The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher’ (Luke 6:40).

That verse reminds us that education is deeply personal. Our teachers do more than deliver content, they model faith, compassion, perseverance, and integrity. They reflect Christ’s love and help shape students’ values and worldview.

AI cannot pray with a student, notice when someone is struggling, or remind them of their God-given worth. It cannot teach forgiveness, faith, or friendship. These are deeply, relational moments that happen only through the connection between a teacher and their students, and ultimately between a teacher and God.

We do, however, embrace the positive potential of AI. When used responsibly, it can help teachers reduce administrative workload, support personalised learning, and spark creativity. But at King’s College, AI will always remain a servant, not a master, a tool to enhance, not replace, the calling of educators.

Our approach is grounded in discernment, prayer, and purpose. As Proverbs 2:6 reminds us, ‘For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.’

True wisdom, the kind that shapes lives, comes not from algorithms but from God Himself.

So, while we equip our students to use technology wisely, we remain steadfast in our conviction: AI can inform minds, but only Christ transforms hearts.
