YEAR 6

FROM THE CLASSROOM

It has been a productive and engaging week of learning in Year 6. In Reading, students have been strengthening their comprehension by unpacking the texts they read, forming thoughtful questions, making inferences, and using clues within the text to understand unfamiliar vocabulary. They have also been practising identifying main ideas, summarising with supporting details, and thinking critically about the information they encounter.

In Writing, students have been planning their setting narratives and using their writing toolkits to enhance description and mood. They have been using their plans to guide their drafting and focusing on how to structure their ideas clearly and purposefully.

In Maths, students have been working with decimals, learning how to multiply and divide them by 10 and 100, and exploring how place value shifts during these operations. They have also been practising estimating and rounding decimal problems, checking the reasonableness of their answers, and presenting their mathematical thinking neatly and clearly in their workbooks.

During Inquiry, students have continued exploring Australia’s democratic system. They have been learning about the structure of government, the responsibilities of each level, and the processes involved in elections and campaigning.

In Wellbeing, Year 6 has been discussing how persistence helps us grow as learners. Students have been identifying challenges they can influence through their actions, practising adaptability, and showing confidence when tasks feel difficult. They have also been reflecting on respectful behaviour and working at the expected noise level to support a positive learning environment.

REMINDERS

Reading at Home

Reading is a lifelong skill and we recommend families to allocate time at home for their child to read whenever possible. We suggest finding texts that interest your child so they can read for enjoyment rather than it being considered homework.

Uniform Reminder

We are still seeing students wearing black pants or shorts to school.

A reminder that Ramlegh Park’s uniform is navy blue.

Camp Parent Volunteers – Expression of Interest

Dear Families, we are excited to announce that our upcoming school camp at Woorabinda will take place in August. As part of our planning, we are seeking parent volunteers who are available to support the camp and help ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all students.

We are looking for parents who are able to attend camp on the following dates:

6AEF will attend camp on August 17th-19th
6BCDG will attend on the August 19th-21st

If you are interested in volunteering, please email Miss Nash, Miss Marie or your child's classroom teacher. All volunteers must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

We will contact families once we have finalised the volunteer team. Please note that depending on numbers, we may not be able to take all volunteers, but we truly appreciate every offer of support.
