Year 6: Nicole Werner Visit
Pete Evans, Year 6 Team Leader
The Year 6s were treated to a special visit from Nicole Werner, State MP for Warrandyte, as part of their Civics and Citizenship Inquiry topic, ‘Power to Change’. Articulate, engaging and inspiring, students and staff were privileged to hear Nicole’s story, passion and commitment to her community.
The first Asian woman elected to the Lower House, the first female representative of Warrandyte and the youngest woman in the Legislative Assembly, Nicole talked passionately of her compassion, care, conviction, courage and calling.
From dealing with the issues of crime and gun reform to the challenges of the cost of living, the Year 6s were encouraged to draw their strength from God when times are challenging.
Dedicated to being “a voice for the voiceless, and a voice for the church”, Nicole declared her devotion to service. Quoting Martin Luther King, “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve”.
Prep: Wild Action Incursion
Kellie Westcott, Prep Team Leader
Our Prep students recently enjoyed a special visit from Wild Action, a wildlife education incursion that brought Australian animals right into our classroom. The children were thrilled to meet some incredible creatures including a wombat, a wallaby, a tawny frogmouth and even a black-headed python.
Students had the opportunity to see, hear and gently hold these amazing animals. There were plenty of smiles and curious questions as they learned about how each animal lives and what makes it unique. For many, it was their first time being so close to native Australian wildlife, making the experience especially memorable.
This experience also encouraged us to reflect on God’s creation and our role in caring for it. We discussed simple ways we can look after animals and protect their habitats.
It was a fun, engaging and meaningful learning experience that our students will remember for a long time.
