Assistant Principal's Message

Restorative Circles
At St Margaret Mary’s, we continue to focus on supporting the factors that influence behaviour by strengthening relationships, building empathy and developing students’ social and emotional understanding. One way this is taking place across the school is through the use of Restorative Circles.
You may hear your child speaking about these circles at home. Through regular participation, students are encouraged to listen deeply, speak respectfully and reflect thoughtfully with their peers. These conversations provide opportunities for students to build positive relationships, navigate challenges and develop the language and confidence needed to respectfully resolve conflict and strengthen community.
Restorative practices are an important part of our commitment to nurturing students who are compassionate, reflective and connected members of the StMM’s community. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by asking children what they discussed and what they learned through the experience.
Winter Uniform Expectations – Term 2
From Monday 11 May, all students are expected to wear their full winter uniform each day. The sports uniform is to be worn only on designated sport days.
At St Margaret Mary’s, we believe the uniform is more than simply what students wear. It reflects a sense of pride, belonging and connection to our community. Wearing the uniform well reminds students that they are part of something bigger than themselves and helps to foster a strong sense of identity within our school.
To support this, we will be having a uniform focus (“uniform blitz”) over the coming weeks. Students who are not in the correct uniform will, in the first instance, be gently reminded of expectations. If concerns continue, parents will be contacted so that we can work together to support each child in meeting these expectations.
We thank you for your ongoing support and partnership in maintaining high standards and a strong sense of pride in our school.
Bookwork
Next week, your child will bring home their English and History books. We encourage you to take some time to look through, discuss and enjoy the learning, work samples and responses your child has completed.
You will notice that your child will place a sticky note on a piece of work they would especially like to share with you. We warmly encourage you to write a short comment in response to your discussion about their learning. Children truly do value and treasure these comments from their parents.
All books are to be returned on Monday so that students can continue their learning in the appropriate workbook.
Attendance
Regular attendance at school is essential for progress and deemed compulsory by the Government. If your child is unwell and will be absent from school, please make an entry on the Compass App under absences. It is important the class rolls are accurate as they can be called in legal proceedings.
Students arriving late or leaving early must be signed in or out by a parent at the school office through Compass.
